Salmon En croute
I've decided that every weekend I will make something new from scratch (or almost scratch). This weekend I made Salmon Encroute (only cheated with shop bought puff pastry) and dauphinois potatoes. It was a great success, but the salmon encroute isn't as cheap as I hoped. The main ingredients for the sauce inside the pastry…

1kg (small) chicken in SC
Hiya, I've got a small chicken and thought instead of roasting it, I'd put it in my SC. Will it be done by 6pm if I put it on high? Do I just need to bung it in the SC with maybe some onions on the bottom? What about stock - should I make a bit of it, or just crumble a cube over it? (would it be better with liquid?) Sorry…

Snacks for a 1 year old
Hi My LO is quite adverse to fruit and whilst I continue to try and give it to her I also give her Organix biscuits, bread sticks and rice cakes. The breadsticks and rice cakes are okay, they aren't too expensive and I don't think I can make them cheaper so I'm happy to buy them. The biscuits however I think are overpriced…

Help: Whisky fudge recipe? (please?)
Have any old-stylers got a good recipe for Scottish whisky fudge? I bought a bag of it at a festival recently and it was delicious, so would like to try my hand at making my own. If anyone has a good recipe, I'd be exceedingly grateful. I have tried searching the boards without success.

Making kids clothes from my old clothes!
Hi everyone! I'm pondering this one as I've only just mastered sewing on buttons...but I have LOADS of clothes which I've been storing up to sell 'one day' but by now tbh they're probably not saleable as they'll be out of style. There's lots of lovely fabric though, and my mum reckons it's quite easy to 'knock up' some…

I did do a search and couldn't find where to put this so if it shouldn't be here sorry please move it. I have just discovered the delights of using polar fleece as sheets. I bought from Ikea very cheap blue polar throws and one very cold night sat watching television wrapped in one. When it came time to go to bed I…

I've melted clothes to my iron
...really stupid, I know. But I absent-mindedly ironed something I shouldn't have at a too high temperature, and there are now bits of clothes stuck to my iron. Have turned it off to cool... How do I chip off the melted... well... looks like melted plastic now! :( (Synthetic material) Without destroying the metal plate of…

Foaming Soap
If you have bought one of the foaming hand soaps recently - don't throw away the bottle ! Foaming soap is cheap to make yourself - it's all about the pump, just buy some cheap liquid soap (from lidl or your preference) fill up half the bottle then add the rest water to the top - put the lid back on and gently shake till…

Keeping lettuce fresh
I am trying to tackle my menu and shopping list ready for the shop tomorrow, but seem to be wasting so much fresh stuff mainly lettuce. I like to have lettuce in the fridge, normally by just a normal iceberg but I never get to eat it all before it goes brown. Late last week treated myself to a bag of mixed leaves but they…
