Can I ask why you bought it all, items you didnt want/need? If you went shopping when hungry (know you shouldnt, but hey, we all have to sometimes), I can understand 1-2 'naughty' items. Overall if it's what you meal plan for, what's the problem? It sounds like youd like to cook/bake more, if so why not try and make the time, lend a cookbook from the library and give it a go, practice makes perfect, and depending what you make it can work out cheaper, more nutritious and be fun. If you really dont have time, why not ditch the naughty items and use the money for healthier snacks.

    Is that brutal enough? :p

did you take the kids with you? It sounds like they may have asked for all the cola/biscuits/crisps and stuff?
  • well there seems to be an awful lot of sweeties, biscuits and crips on the list! Maybe you could ration the amount they eat through the week - better for them and will last longer and save you money too ;)

Instead of the fajita kit, why not just buy some plain wraps and then when you cook your veg/meat add some of your own spices (ground cumin and cinnamon perhaps?). This will be cheaper than the fajita kit in the long term as the spices will last for ages.

Why do you buy marg, butter and butter spread?

If you have bought pudding rice, I assume that is to make rice pudding? In which, case, they can do without ice cream if they've got rice pudding for dessert (am i horrid?)

You havent done too badly. Did you meal plan and how many meals have you got out of the shopping trip? you have brought too manyy treats!

If it was me, I wouldnt have brought

    cola bottles- another treat
    haribo- another treat
carte d'or (ice cream)- another treat
dig it top - another treat
    l/s digger top -another treat
[/B]ee (one top for each of my boys in sale) - another treat
    walkers crisps - another treat
    select crisps - another treat
    spotlights(lamp)
    mini globe (lamp)
hula hoops (reduced) - another treat
    caramel wafers - another treat
    popcorn - another treat
    fajita kit
    cookies - another treat
    cocoa
    lemonade
    handwash x3
grated cheese - buy normal cheese and grate it yourself
soya milk (fresh) x3 - you brought normal milk, why this as well?
    rice drink - What for?
    biscuits - Another treat
butter spred - More butter/Spread? Did you need this?
2 easter eggs - another treat
    hot cross buns -another treat

    so meal wise you have:
    frozen sweetcorn
    pudding rice
    digestive bisc
    fajita kit
    value eggs
    flour
    rice snaps
    mincemeat (reduced)
    2 whole chickens
    icing suger
    wheat biscuits
    grated cheese
    fresh milk
    sultanas
    sweet potatoes
    sponge fingers
    mushrooms
    beef mince x2
    bread
    grapes
    leeks
    bananas
    carrots
    onions
    parsnips

How long is that going to last you??

You need to write a list of the meals you want, then buy only the food items you need for each meal.

Try and make this food last for as long as possible. rummage in your cupbaords, make a list of all the food items and then work out what meals you can make out of everything you can.

I would use up the sweets and treats but then dont buy any and instead make cakes and biscuits, get the kids to help out and make thier own!

carte d'or (ice cream) - can you buy cheaper ice cream?

    walkers crisps
    select crisps
hula hoops (reduced)- lots of crisps here. If you don't buy them then you can't eat them. Simple!

    digestive bisc
    caramel wafers
    biscuits
    cookies
    sponge fingers - ditto.

fajita kit - what is in this? Can you buy the individual components cheaper? ie the flour tortillas & some seasoning. OR just use whatever herbs/spices you have in the cupboard

grated cheese - buy a block & grate it yourself. On tesco.com Cathedral city ready grated is £9.35 per kilo & the block is £6.23

    stork margarine
    value butter
butter spread - why all the different types of butter/spread? Can you just buy one lot for all purposes?

Other than that all I would say that it a bit light on the fruit front. If you snack on fruit instead of crisps and biscuits it would be much healthier. You've got all the ingredients to bake your own cakes & biscuits. Plus you have bought some easter eggs, which I presume will go away until Easter, and clothes, which shouldn't really count in your food budget.

Its not the best of shopping, but if she learns from her mistakes (quickly!) then she will do better next time!

I'm sure we have all done a shop like this, i know i did when i first moved out, but never again!

Handwash - Check the Tesco Vouchers thread on the coupons board, there are health and beauty vouchers that mean you can get mountains of stuff like this for pennies. (The bulging box on top of my wardrobe is means I won't be buying handwash for about a year :D)

Obviously agree re so many readymade treats. Once you get in the swing of making a cake for the week or brownies or something similar, the children will love them and it won't take you long at all.

As the others have asked, do you have a meal plan? How many meals is this for?

RE the Carte D'Or ice cream, I must admit I always buy good ice cream, this brand, Walls Cornish or one of the supermarket's own finest or taste the difference brands, to go with HM puds. The cheap stuff tastes like frozen margarine, and looks like melted marg when it thaws out....
