"sold" car to motor trade - cheque bounced
Hi, I sold my car to a motor trader at the weekend (not a part ex as I'd already got a new car) and he gave me a business cheque - "concrete, will clear in 2 days". Dealer took the car for a test drive, I told them there was a engine management light on, offered to show under the bonnet etc but seemed happy after checking…

Hit by car while parked in private car park..
Hello, I'm sure there have been threads about this before, but I can't find anything that fits my issue exactly. I left my car in a shopping centre car park for four hours, and when I returned it had been hit and there was a dent in the nearside back panel (which had definitely not been there when I parked the car). The…

Car Insurance if partner is registered owner and keeper
We are buying a near new 2017 car from Motorpoint which has had one previous owner. My partner currently doesn't have a license but the car will be for her once she passes her test which will hopefully be by next summer. I was going to put her name as the owner and registered keeper of the car when we buy it even though I…

Correct number of NCD Years
I recently renewed my car insurance with Aviva for the second consecutive year after having changed companies almost annually in the past. In the on-line application I selected the maximum 15 year option for the NCD. I have various documents from various past insurers confirming an accumulated total of 27 years NCD - in…

Car Insurance - Backdate Address
Hi everyone, I noticed last night that I'd forgotten to update my address with Admiral when I moved earlier in the year. So I used their online system to update and got lucky, because the premium went down by a decent amount. The problem is I moved in late March and wanted to see if I could backdate it, but the rep I spoke…

Car insurance advice
Can anyone advise me regarding this please? Last Nov while in slow moving traffic my daughters wing mirror was smashed by a car going (faster) in the other direction. The other driver was aggressive and told my (19 yo) daughter it was her fault which I don’t agree with. He reported it to his insurance company, first we…

Advise Please
Hi all, I have an Astra H 2006 diagnosed head gasket failing/failure. It had the symptoms, losing coolant with no obvious sign of leak, white smoke out of exhaust, mayo on oil cap etc... Anyway pressure tested today confirmed no leak but hydro carbon test failed indicating exhaust fumes in coolant. Quoted just over £1,000…

102k corsa - good deal?
My lil' 02 reg Corsa died at the garage today and I was advised to get a new car rather than a new engine. Being a student, my budget is quite low and I'm not expecting much. In my local area someone is selling a black 02 Corsa with 102k miles. It looks to be in pretty good condition and has MOT until December 2018 and the…

I've checked the MSE Motor Insurance section and can't find what I'm looking for. Our son is 17 and learning to drive, we want to insure him on hubby's car as he's unlikely to have his own car when he passes his test, does anybody have any recommendations on which insurers are good value for adding a young driver to an…

Some genius thought it would be funny to knife the softtop of my car
Any advice welcome. I used to drive an old banger and was sinking endless money into it to keep it running. I couldn't trust it to start, or last for any time without developing yet another fault. So in the end I thought I'm gonna treat myself to a nice new car on a lease and I'll never have to worry about paying repairs…

MoT Fail
Am I unreasonable? If you book your car in for a service and MoT, would you expect a fail on: Offside Headlamp aim too low (1.8). This is such a simple adjustment, I would expect it to be done either before or during the MoT. They didn't have the brass neck to charge for a re-test.

car security
There has been a few car thefts in the local area, mainly German cars. Whereas I just drive a Nissan Qashqai. Just wondering is it worth buying any additional car locks for the steering wheel? If so any that one can recommend?

For those with dash cams - do you enable or disable speed recording?
It'll depend on other factors i suppose. Obviously whether your dash cam shows the speed you're travelling or not will be a huge factor, as will whether your dash cam supports the option to turn it off/on. So if you don't have a dash cam, have one but don't have this feature on your dash cam or have one but can't turn it…
