Adding a learner to my policy
Options
I've checked the MSE Motor Insurance section and can't find what I'm looking for. Our son is 17 and learning to drive, we want to insure him on hubby's car as he's unlikely to have his own car when he passes his test, does anybody have any recommendations on which insurers are good value for adding a young driver to an established driver's policy? Hubby's existing insurer won't add a driver under 21 anyway ... TIA

We used standalone learner driver insurance for our son, worked out much cheaper and easier than needing to amend the main policy. The company was Covered on Demand and you could choose how many days to get cover for.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

Admiral Group (e.g. Elephant or Admiral themselves), or Liverpool Victoria0

Why won't your OH's existing company add your son? If it's because of the car (eg too powerful) then you might struggle with other companies too.
We had this problem when our eldest was learning - we both drove cars that were deemed too powerful for a beginner, and as we didn't want to change them we ended up buying a car for her and insuring it in her name (with us both as named drivers, which reduced the premium). At the time, we found Tesco was the most reasonable for her - but there are so many variables you really do have to shop around. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
