Address related car insurance : all help appreciated !!!

Options
Hello all

I'll try to be brief.

Recently moved house, literally half a mile from old house.

Car insurance has tripled!

Moved from an ex council 3 bed semi to 4 bed detached across the road from a small shopping centre/MacDonald

Rang up insurance they said it's address related and nothing they can do.

I have 2 cars. 1 is literally worth 400£ the other 2000£

Insurance want 1200 and 1800 insurance for the year.

I am 45 with no previous convictions and a clean licence

Next door neighbour has a new car and pays 260£ a year!?!?

Who on earth do I talk to to see why my address is "blacklisted"?

I need my car to get to work as it's 15 miles away and buses do not run around my shifts.

Get some quotes off the comparison sites to see if it's a quirk of your particular insurer. If it is, then it might be worth paying the cancellation fee and going with a different company.
  • The address-related part of the premium ratings can be decidedly odd sometimes.

We moved from a very quiet location where there was nothing at the back of us but Pennines, pleasant cul-de-sac, everyone knew everyone and no-one was passing through, to a busy main road on the outskirts of a town near Bradford. And our premium went down!!!

You make it sound as if you've only spoken to one insurer...

Maybe they simply don't want to cover you at that address. It may well be cheaper to cancel your policy and start a new one.
  • Hi all.

Sorry in my attempt to be brief I missed out the point that even the comparison sites want treble.

The house next to mine has normal priced quotes.

    Mine is thru the roof.

I don't know who to contact to get this sorted

Have you tried to get a quote from the same company as your neighbour?

I don't think prices are micromanaged to that degree, I assume your neighbour has the same postcode as you?

I think there has got to be another factor somewhere.

Speak to an insurance broker, maybe they can shed some light on it and get you a better deal.

Some addresses do flag up where there have been previous CCJ's or people living with bad credit ratings or the address has simply made a lot of insurance claims. Don't know what you can do about it though. I know the house number does affect premium as my daughter's policy was reduced based on her house number compared to the average for the street.

The days of blacklisting properties rather than people has long since gone.

I'm not even going to try to decipher what you mean.

My house doesn't have a number. It doesn't have a road name, either. Poor insurers.
