Car Insurance - Backdate Address
Hi everyone,
I noticed last night that I'd forgotten to update my address with Admiral when I moved earlier in the year. So I used their online system to update and got lucky, because the premium went down by a decent amount.
The problem is I moved in late March and wanted to see if I could backdate it, but the rep I spoke to online mentioned that they don't backdate. Only from the day you notify them, which is from today. Still good to save some money but is this right? If the premium had gone up, what are the chances they would have pushed for backdating the payments?
I just wanted to double check if it's possible to pursue this or whether it's just a good lesson learned.

Think you should just keep your head down and move on. You are lucky nothing happened to your car during this period as you may not have been covered.0

Unlikely that a lowering of risk would affect a claim, even more unlikely they will backdate any refund when the error was of your own doing.
Just take the reduction in premium as a win.
(Also make sure you have updated your V5 and driving licence to your new address)0 -
Yep thanks, I did the V5C, license and everything straight away. Kicking myself now that I completely missed this!0

You could pursue it and they would be well within their rights to void your insurance for not making a required declaration of change of address. Certainly if you'd made a claim in that time they'd have a perfect way to get out of paying you out. Some battles are just not worth fighting. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Sorry but that is just scare mongering.
The OP has already made them aware that he moved earlier by asking to back date the change - which they refused to do but processed the change from now.
The OP is entitled to complain about anything that they wish to as long as they follow the complaints procedure - they can even take it to the FOS if they choose to after exhausting the insurer complaints procedure. If Admiral were to try to void the OP's policy now - as a direct response to a complaint from the OP - then I guarantee you that the FOS would overturn that action 100%..All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
It's a lease with Audi. I have a letter from them dated 04/05 because I needed it for a parking permit. I can get the V5C off them as well, but it's unlikely anything there would change as they are the legal owners of the car.
I worked out I could get about 150 back from Admiral if they did backdate which isn't a small amount but also won't break the bank if I don't pursue it. I'm due for renewal on the 6th of January anyway so I might use this to haggle.0
