MoT Fail

Am I unreasonable?
If you book your car in for a service and MoT, would you expect a fail on: Offside Headlamp aim too low (1.8). This is such a simple adjustment, I would expect it to be done either before or during the MoT. They didn't have the brass neck to charge for a re-test.

Depends what service you booked, simple oil change then no they wont be touching anything but the oil and filter.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Theyre not allowed to carry out any work no matter how obvious or small in the test, or to do so before as that would count as a pre-test. the MOT test itself must be impartial........ and the re test is always free within 14 days!0

Headlamp alignment isn’t generally part of a service.
MOT failure for this is very common, shows as a fail, but easy to fix and retest immediately.0 -
Lots of garages will do the MOT before the service then fix any fails / advisories during the service before retesting.
Saves you the cost of a service if it majorly fails the mot. It's also what they're advised to do by VOSA / DVLA.0 -

Yes they are and there's an option on the testers system they click if they've performed a repair during the mot. The system then automatically fails and issues an immediate pass.
Adjustment and bulbs for example are exactly the sort of thing this is for.
As for the pre test rule you refer to... that's well and truly plucked off the top of your head. It's common practice to service before mot and have work done to get it straight through0 -
Too right they are. you have it in for a service as well as MOT.
So I would expect them to adjust the headlamp to pass.
Are you saying they failed it and you now have to go back for a retest after fixing the alignment?0 -
And what if the adjusters are seized?0
