Damp getting me down
Hi all. I live in an end of terrace house built in the 1960s. Over the last year I've been having issues with damp in the top corner of my bedroom, which is at the front of the house - on the end, so not connected to the neighbours. Had the gutters cleaned out in February, they were full of crud so I assumed that was…

Gutter leaking and damp bricks
Hi all, The guttering at the rear of my property has a break and the water has been splashing on the decking below and some has been splashing on the brickwork. Once the guttering has been repaired, will this dry out? I'm assuming the brickwork will need to be cleaned. I have a tendency to worry about things like this,…

Best alarm companies/systems?
I'm tempted to put this in Is This Quote Fair but I'm looking for more general advice on who to go to for house alarms. I'm looking to get a house alarm and so far I've tried ADT, who've quoted me about £520 initial cost and £36 a month monitoring etc. It doesn't call the police but, instead, has someone at the other end…

New Windows . . .
Just had new windows fitted. We noticed that on one of the windows the frame has been "welded" together but not particularly well as the bits of the frame don't line up (pics below). My knowledge of how windows should be is poor so just wanted opinions on this and whether I should mention it to the window fitter:

tower Air fryer-any good.

PIV
We recently had a damp specialist tell us that we need to rip our walls down, install a membrane, replaster, etc. He terrified us! We only have a small issue with what seems to be condensation, it appears around windows with no radiators beneath them. We have clammy walls but no mould. I’ve heard amazing things about PIV…

Fridge help please
Hi all, I am hoping that someone can offer some advice please. The light went out in the fridge yesterday and the whole unit stopped working (fridge and freezer). I pulled out the unit, unplugged and replugged it. The freezer is working fine but the fridge is not. To double check, I left it off over night and left the…

New Driveway Worries
So a local driveway fitter was in the street last Wednesday, laying new drives for a couple of neighbours, he knocked on the door and offered a discount if we had our done as well. His work looked decent enough and it was a job we were looking to do anyway, so I said yes. Long story short, it's all done now, but they…

Condensation outside windows
After many years of condensation inside windows we have moved to a 5yr old well insulated house. We still get a little condensation inside occasionally, but this morning there was quite a lot of cond outside. It was on the rooms where heating comes on before dawn, it didn't cover the whole panes just the middle. Any…

Xmas presents for 6 years old
Hello. My son wrote a letter to Santa, and I am confused a little. It's hard enough because my son changes his wishes every day. He has already ordered a game console, 3D pen, tablet, laptop, and lego. I'm thinking of settling on a game console and buying a board game for the whole family. I don't want to but all the…

best option to add living/dining area
Looking for some advice regarding extension planning.
Currently I have a small kitchen in my living room (room next to garden), I am planning to add extension to this room and make this room bigger by opening it wider by breaking walls - very typical extension plan I guess. Attaching picture for more…

Utility room or kitchen
Hello, I’m looking for advice. We currently love in a 2 bed house that is generally a good size our daughter is getting bigger and her toys are taking over which o don’t mind. We find however that having living and dining in the same room is a bit of a squash. We are considering knocking down the wall between the utility…

Kitchen Sink water flowing into washing machine drum.
Hi. Just had a new mashing machine installed, now every few days after washing dishes the water ends up inside the washing machine drum. Any ideas? I know nothing about DIY but the thick white twirly pipe is beneath the sink and the grey pipe leads to the washing machine.

Is Acoustic underlay worth the layout?
Looking to re carpet my 2 kids bedrooms on 1st floor, currently no soundproofing of any sort between the floorboards and I’m wanting to deaden both the impact noise of them stomping around and also the tv noise from lounge into their bedrooms. Has anyone had acoustic underlay fitted ,did it make any difference to justify…

Is it worth my while having my present kitchen refurbished?
I have a vinyl wrapped Benchmarx kitchen I bought 10 years ago and it's beginning to show the tell tale signs of peeling behind a couple of cupboard doors so, presuming there is still plenty of life in the cabinets, would it be worth replacing the doors and other frontages with a painted alternative rather than replace the…

Sealing sink on oak worktop issues...
Hi I have just installed my IKEA kitchen with oak veneered worktops. They come pre oiled, but I only just read you are meant to oil them more once installed. I put in my sink with a bead of silicon around the endge and then tightened the sink clips to squash it, and then cut the silicon back after. I've just noticed after…

testing a used cooker
Is it safe to test a cooker on a 13amp ring main by testing each component separately? I'm assuming the heavy wiring is to cover normal use where all components could be in use.
