How much do you pay for water?
We moved into our house in February, this is the first property we have lived in that has water on a meter. We pay £23 a month for a 3 bed house I thought this was too good to be true, but we are both out all day 5 days a week Can I be nosy and ask how much you pay for water and what type of property is that for?

Laying ceramic tiles
Hi. I would like to replace the ceramic tiles on my kitchen floor as several are cracked. From pulling out the fridge and washing machine to clean them it is clear that most of the existing tiles were laid on the original wooden floorboards. I presume this is why they have cracked. I would be grateful if any readers can…

Repeated flooding - please help!
Hi there! From the months of November 15 to February this year, we had 6 instances of the sewer flooding into our back garden. The water company stated that the hydraulics in the pumping station weren't working properly and they had to wait for the weather to improve to fix them. During this time every time it rained more…

Finding the cause of damp
Hi Hopefully someone on here has some experience of this! About a year ago we noticed a really small damp area at the top of our bedroom wall. The wall is an internal wall between two bedrooms so we've been baffled as to why it was damp...the other bedroom wall isn't! It kind of comes and goes so we ignored it but recently…

Washing machine opinion (exciting stuff)
Greetings, We're moving, and we need a new washing machine. I do not delight in spending money, but I delight even less in spending money twice. There are some Miele units that cost about 1k, and get pretty positive reviews for build quality - and a 10 year guarantee. There are some Samsung units going for £400 with a 5…

Moved into new house and... Dog urine stench
Just moved into new rented home and so many problems... But the one which is really affecting me is the stench from next door. When we first moved in I thought we had a mouse problem as there was this horrible odour which I associate with mouse urine/poop. However after a couple of days, noticed that it was just in the…

Standard sliding wardrobe doors are slightly too big.
Hi, We would like to use standard sliding wardrobe doors and install them ourselves. Most standard doors from B&Q, Homesbase and Wickes are 2220mm with a ceiling height of 2260mm. Our minimum ceiling height is 2243mm so it's just slightly too short (17mm). Is there a way to fit the standard doors when the height is only…

Folding Glass Shower Screen (weight of)
I would like to have a bath installed with a folding glass screen at one end as I intend to have a shower installed in the bath. Therefore the screen starts from bath height and not floor height. Does the glass screen have to be attached to a brick/block wall to carry it? The wall has wooden paneling over a pine frame.…

Exterior House paint colours
I felt quite 'chuffed' when a neighbour asked what colour paint I'd used for the front of the house - window & door surround, as she wanted to use it for her own house. Next door neighbour's side render was coloured green at one time - which didn't look good, fortunately - with other work done - now magnolia, and looks…

Citric Acid - Taps
We recently moved into a new home and I've just given the bathroom a good clean round. The sink taps had limescale on them and I sprayed over a citric acid solution. The limescale has gone but part of the chrome fittings seems to have now lost the chrome plating and looks damaged - as if its been eaten away or like someone…

Water leak?
Hi all, I live in a semi detached property. We have a shared drive that was divided and fenced (long ago). So we have some land on the side of the property with a gate. There is a trickle of water flowing into my property from under this fence (near the gate). Initially I thought it was rain water, but looks like its not.…

Built Under Oven Advice Please
I'm in need of a new electric built under oven. Because I'm no longer able to kneel down to clean an oven I'm looking at catalytic ovens. I would particularly need one with the catalytic panels on the back and top as those areas are the areas I find it impossible to clean, although all round would be great. Here is my…
