Washing machine opinion (exciting stuff)

Greetings,
We're moving, and we need a new washing machine. I do not delight in spending money, but I delight even less in spending money twice.
There are some Miele units that cost about 1k, and get pretty positive reviews for build quality - and a 10 year guarantee.
There are some Samsung units going for £400 with a 5 year guarantee, and they also get decent enough reviews.
Before we just buy the vastly cheaper model, is there a compelling reason to spend the extra on something like a Miele model?

......or buy a £200 one and if it lasts longer than two years your 'in profit' over the £1000 one.

remember you'll have less joy in your life

I wouldn't go with the most expensive one - in my experience it doesn't guarantee a better machine. My Zanussi/Electrolux machine is now 11 years old without ever having a problem (and I do overstuff it regularly, it gets a lot of use), whereas friends of mine are on their third Bosch in less than 10 years.0

Yeah i agree, My BEKO one is 5 years old, used daily and still going strong.
Save your money, and just pick a branded product upto £300.
If it only lasts 3 years, you still need to break 3 to match the cost of the miele0 -
Thanks guys, I'll look around at the reasonably priced units and get something that doesn't have 600 negative reviews. It didn't seem like a false economy, and the price differences were stark.0

Bear in mind that some models, at the top of manufacturers' ranges, are more expensive because of extra features which you are unlikely to use.0

Samsungs from £349 with 5 year guarantee. http://www.johnlewis.com/browse/special-offers/electrical-offers/appliances-with-5-year-guarantee/all-washing-machines-8000020112/_/N-5vqoZ474t
If you think these may need more than £651 spending on repairs in years 5-10 the Miele may be the better option.
14 year old Zanussi. After 11 years it needed a belt costing £7.49.0 -
To be honest I got my last machine second hand, and I only ever needed to replace the seal!0

Cheaper washing machines have become a throw away product for heavier uses, the initial outlay capital cost per wash being low.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

My washing machine went badly wrong about 3/4 years so so we had to get one straight away. Popped to argos, no research, no drama, asked which ones were on display to take home now, took home an Indesit for about £200?
3 1/2 years later, it's used every day, has a variety of programmes that I have not a clue about (flash cotton wash anyone? No me neither! ) Never had a problem with it.0 -
Thanks guys, I guess it's just luck of the draw if they fail. Cheers!0
