Very cold kitchen
House is lovely and warm apart from the kitchen which is freezing. The high air circulation is ironically (probably) a good thing considering the humidity created when cooking. However all other times the gaps under the cabinets are leaking out cold air, lots in some places like the sink caninet and built in dishwasher. I…

Insulation for floor under kitchen worktops
Hi, I tiled the floor in my new build home but obviously stopped a short way under the worktops as t wasn't necessary or practical to tile further. Where to get wood in bham for shelves?
We want to make our own shelves and paint them different colours as cant stand the veneered or lacquered ones that you find everywhere. Does anyone know where I can find the wood that would be suitable for this in Birmingham or the midlands? And if I need to treat it/use anything on it first before we stain/paint it?

Is it realistic to expect a newly plastered wall to be completely crack free?
I recently replastered 2 rooms in my 1930s semi detached house. After 2 months I have noticed a few cracks: 2 of them following the top edges of what used to be fireplaces; 1 very thin crack right in the middle of the wall coming down 2/3 of the way from ceiling to floor. I have had 2 plasterers in my home. One that…

Can you wash roman blinds?
Is it possible to wash Roman Blinds (the material is washable). If so what do I do about the stringing? They are kitchen blinds and have a slight film of grease on them so brushing won't be enough I don't think.

Hand held vacuum cleaner
Hi, I'm wondering if someone can recommend a small , light , effective hand held vacuum cleaner. When cleaning out my log burner , I seem to manage to drop small bits of bark. Rather than drag out the Hoover it would be lovely to find a portable one that has good suction. Thank you in advance Di
