Gas Boiler replacement

Hi Guys
I have not got a clue what i should be paying,i have been enquiring about changing our 20 year old Gloworm boiler,i have been advised i should have a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 40CDI regular boiler.
The boiler is in the kikchen and access is no problem,so its a change over and two days have been mentioned the quotes i have had are £1700 and £1900 inclusive of the boiler and Vat.
Any comments would be helpful

Do you really need to change it?

My dad has a 33 year old Gloworm and when it finally dies he will get..... another Gloworm! I have a Worcester Bosch and it is useless, forever breaking down, over heating, needing the pressure valve replaced, dripping water etc in 8 years it has been nothing but problem after problem, would not recommend!!
    Goal weight....lighter than when I started :D

Slightly off topic I know, but our current boiler will need to be replaced very soon (an old Baxi back boiler)

Is a combi type boiler the best type, or should we get a non-combi type, as we already have a hot water tank, which was replaced only a couple of years ago.

I realise, there would be much additional pipework, but excluding this, would folk recommend a combi or not.

    Many thanks !

The choice of a comb depends on a) whether your water pressure and flow rate, and gas supply pipe, are even suitable for a combi, and b) your lifestyle and type of property. If you have more than 1 bath/shower room, a combi will not be suitable if you want to use both simultaneously.
Do you need instant hot water, or would you rather have it stored?
A combi will require less pipework (though more initial labour to remove the hot water tank and pipe runs to it).
Exactly what makes you think you want a combi though?

    Hi.

Why do you need a 40kw boiler?

My previous house I bought had no central heating. We got it put in and had a combi then, it was brilliant (a Baxi 105 I think)

Prior to out arrival, there was no tank, so that was probably the reason a combi was recommended. There were only two gas fired instant water heaters, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen.

We only have one bathroom at present in out new house, but have space and may in the future add a small toilet and WHB.

Just relaced an old Glow-worm boiler with a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 34 cdi included power flush, magna filter,WB, Digistat wireless thermostat all for £1850 including VAT. Also at the moment if you go to a WB approved dealer you get a 7 year warranty, this offer ends 31/12/ 2012

BTW my old Glow- worm was terrible, problems from year2 and it finnally gave up after only 10 years.

I have just had a quote for a Vaillant boiler 28 I think - sorry not got paperwork in front of me. Around £1800 with magna filter and wireless control with 10 year warranty because they are approved Vaillant installers or something - not such a big boiler as the one you are getting quoted on though. To be honest I would be happy to keep my old baxi (appox 28 years old) but it is being a bit temperamental lately and have already been stuck without heating for a weekend although it has decided to work again - just dont want to get stuck without heating again - Why on earth are combis so expensive it's almost like the fashion item you have to have at whatever cost!
