    40kw seems excessive.

  • I had to do the same a couple of years ago. British Gas gave me a huge quote. I can highly recommend leakbusters.net
They were amazing, economical and great on back up. Would not hesitate to recommend them -quirky anD cool guys to boot.

Has your 'plumber' done a proper site survey, checked water pressure, etc, before coming to that conclusion?

  • Hi Guys
I am a qualified gas engineer and plumber upto level 3 C&G . A gas engineer will check your flow rate and water pressure before deciding what kw your boiler should be he should also take into consideration the size of property ,how many rads and the size of them . It would be totally pointless telling you you require a 40kw boiler that delivers 14l per min of piping hot water if you live in a low water pressure area. As for price each property varies and depends on the work involved i would ask questions if your quoted £1200 for a boiler change as powerflushing is an essential part of a boiler change as it clears all the crap out of your existing rads and pipework. Ask yourself if you bought a new car would you fill the cooling system with sludged up water from your old car.

I was thinking those quotes appear to be without a power flush at least - and if so its expensive. If it does include all the extra bits that you really need, its cheap - very cheap.

FWIW, a 24Kw Worcester I was looking at comes in at around £2300 fitted in my place - including all the other bits and pieces.

I have no idea why i need a 40,thats what i have been told by the plumber,i have 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms and three downstairs rooms plus the kitchen and utility room

Looks like he is quoting for a combi. For a large property this may not be the best option.

    Have a play with this.

My dad has a 33 year old Gloworm and when it finally dies he will get..... another Gloworm! I have a Worcester Bosch and it is useless, forever breaking down, over heating, needing the pressure valve replaced, dripping water etc in 8 years it has been nothing but problem after problem, would not recommend!!

Well I had a Worcester Bosch boiler fitted four years ago, been serviced annually and not a single problem so far.

WLM21 has sent the thread of piste going on about combis.

The OP has been offered a 40kw regular boiler, way oversize,
for no obvious reason. 24kw sounds nearer the mark.

OP what is the output of your existing boiler?
