Wooden ceiling

i have a wooden ceiling in my bathroom which seems to have been varnished.

i would like to paint this white. can i do this and what paint do i use?

    Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Should be easy enough

    Sand the varnish well to give the new paint a good key.
    Undercoat first then use bathroom emulsion or eggshell, I wouldnt go for normal emusion though being as its a damp atmosphere in there it could develop mould.
