Bathroom/creating single bedroom
Hi all, I was just looking for some advice initially and if my idea is feasible then hopefully someone could give me an idea of price. We have been trying in vain to sell our house before I have our second baby but it doesn't look like it's going to happen so we're looking at alternatives to create a third bedroom in the…

Fitting Alcove Shelving
Hi I am looking to build some alcove shelving to house my record collection. The alcove in question is quite wide at 52". We live in an old cottage so all the walls in question are stone. Would it be best to fit battens to the wall first ? Screw depth/type ? Would i need a central support of some sort due to the weight ?…

Handyman/Repairman or Review website?
Hi all, I got a few things I need to fix at my flat: 1. kitchen tap is leaking water when I turn it on. 2. dishwasher doesn't work (I think it is the moisture in the controller). 3. shower head face has come off (I can still shower, just that I can't change how the water shoots out). I was wondering if there is a website…

What is this for on my washing machine??
Hi guys, My clothes have been smelling rather stale after washes these days and while I've tried soda crystals and white vinegar, which usually refreshes stuff for a while, it seems it is having little-to-no-effect these days. Some people advised me to clean the lint filter.. I never have done in 1.5 years as the washing…

Sealing Mosaic Tiles

Best way to strip Victorian front door?
Hi there, I'll be renting out my house soon, and front door needs some serious attention as it's south facing and paint work is extremely faded and tired. Beetroot shines pans!
Had been cooking up some beetroot. I left the pan to soak and what emerged was a really shiny pan. So I took a tiny smidgen of cooked beetroot and rubbed it round another pan, left it a while then soaked it a while. Result two glossy pans with that just new sheen!

Shower isolation switch problem
Hi there, I have just got out of the shower and when I went to turn the isolation switch off it wouldn't 'click' - I pulled it a few times and appears to have turned off, but now won't turn back on. There's a light on it which hasn't worked for over a year (the switch was fine though). I felt the box which the pull cord…

damp
We are buying an old farm house, which is a solid brick construction, it has quite a bit of damp, but has been empty for quite a while. We are about to get a damp survey done, however I've been reading that old houses should be allowed to breath and that chemical damp proofing is not a good idea in an old building? Also…

The mains water pipe made of lead which runs underneath my floor is leaking in various places. It runs for about 8M between the kitchen and the bathroom, and then appears to go into the ground ? Carron Phoenix or Franke Sink Info Please
I'm getting a new kitchen and am either going to get the Franke Maris MRG611 or the Carron Phoenix Bali 105 sink. Has anyone got either of these and if so are you happy with it? Also are they any more awkward to fit than a stainless steel sink? I think they both say tap hole pre drilled but requires knock out. Is that easy…
