Leaking water mains pipe in Lead

The mains water pipe made of lead which runs underneath my floor is leaking in various places.

It runs for about 8M between the kitchen and the bathroom, and then appears to go into the ground ?

In places it looks like the joists will make it difficult to lay a replacement copper pipe.

Would a plastic pipe be an alternative to copper ? or will I have to have the joists cut and replaced to accommodate a new pipe ? Is there another alternative ?

Any idea on the likely costs for the above work ?

Could you run it via an entirely different route?

You can replace Lead pipe with MDPE pipe, you can also use leadloc connectors to connect the lead to the plastic pipe, just make sure you get the right one! Hard to say about the joists as we would be guessing

If its leaking in several places that you can see theres a fair chance that its also leaking in several places that you can't see.

Your Water Utility can "mole" a replacement MDPE pipe in from the main - there is no need to dig everything up or tear holes in your joists.

Get 'em along to price it for you.
