What tools do I need to sand my stairs please? Update with pics
Hi, finally after 10 years of a naked staircase I'm doing something about it :rotfl: When I first moved in the stairs skirting was painted white and a manky carpet was on the stairs. I ripped up the carpet and was left with bare wooden stairs with a small strip of white at each edge. My plan (and tell me if it sounds…

I have vinyl tiles (look like laminate flooring) in my hallway and I took the steam mop over them and now the sheen is gone - looked fine when still wet but now has streaks of matt finish :( Is there anyway to restore some of the…

How to clean stainless steel cookware factory polish residue?
For brand new stainless steel cookware, if you run a kitchen towel or tissue over the edge or even the smooth surface, you can wipe off some gray color or charcoal color polish residue, you know what I'm talking about. Especially, at the edge, it is hard to clean them off completely. Don't know whether they are bad to your…

We have the most hideous carpet in our living room - which I'd love to replace with laminate, but obviously - cheaply! I've had a lok at ebay - for secondhand laminate, nothing has popped up locally, yet. Does anybody know where else I could go to look at it, other than Homebase and wickes? anywhere nice and cheap? Ooooh…

New plaster
We have had our living room walls and ceiling skimmed and is now ready to be painted. A friend recommended using Leyland Trade Laytex matt emulsion which i believe is formulated for new plasters and has good opacity and is concentrated (pigment) that will hide any hairline cracks which are likely to appear. (past…

I am totally hopeless at D.I.Y !
Hi folks I am in my mid 40s and totally hopeless at DIY. I have problems even changing a light bulb! The reason for being 'totally hopeless' is in fact because I am partially disabled. It is a type of invisible disability in that I cannot hold DIY tools properly (I have a slight problem in hand coordination). Therefore,…

repointing patio...easyjoint or geofix
I am about to repoint my patio. Instead of bending over for a couple of days and doing it I was thinking of maybe getting one of these sweep in solutions. The two options seem to be either the geofix stuff or the easyjoint compound. Has anyone had any experience with these?

To make the shelf look thicker, I have 12x45mm strips of real sapele to stick to the edge of the MDF. I am yet to cut these to the appropriate sizes (they will be mitred as the edge of thelf is not uniform). I now have two…
