moving BT junction box

Hi all,
We need to move an old BT junction box from the edge of our window frame, just a few inches so that we can put some shutters up without cutting a hole in them. The box is really old and broken too.
The main line comes in upstairs and there is a line that runs down the front of the house and through a hole in the wooden window frame. Unfortunately there isn't enough slack in the cable to put it through any further.
Anyone have info on how we could sort this out ourselves or is it a job for a professional? If it is, who deals with stuff like this? Would we need to call out BT?
Thanks

If it's the Master Socket you're talking about, then strictly speaking only BT are allowed to touch it. This, of course, opens up the debate about "how would they ever know" etc....., but that's the official line. It could potentially become a problem if the line ever develops a fault and BT discover it's been tampered with, I suppose ...
If it's an extension, then you're quite at liberty to do what you like. It's pretty easy to wire up a telephone socket, and the likes of B&Q etc. sell all the bits you need.0 -
Just make a very careful note of what wires connect together before you take it apart!0

If you look at the back of the face plate, you will see 2 wires connected. Go to CEF and by a krone tool, and krone down the wires back on the two numbers, 2 and 5, or 2 and 4, what ever it is. EASY0

undo the box and look in it, there will be two wires connected, make a note of the blue to 2 blue and white to 5 etc.
A krone tool re crunches them in position after you have pulled them out....
if its to hard, get a man in.0 -
