Panasonic Fridge Filter - £125!!! Help

I just asked Panasonic for a new filter for my fridge (NR-B53V1-XB) and they want £125 for a filter. Clearly this is insane pricing, it's more than 10% of the price of the fridge. Does anyone know where I can get one cheaper or if I actually need it?

i just bought a "£60" filter for my Baumatic fridge for £24 from
    http://stores.ebay.co.uk/finerfiltersuk

not only this, but the vendor was ULTRA helpful during 3 phone calls (me being dim!) and resolved all the probelms i had fitting a "non standard" item (which seems to be as good/better)

West coast of Scotland so very soft water with us and I have been advised to askfor a filter bypass kit if/when we buy an American fridge.

Guess it really depends on how hard your water is. Why are you replacing it? (I don't know the ins and outs but I suspect the answer will help you decide whether you need it or not)
  • I'm looking to replace it because the light is flashing telling me to replace it :|. I'm near Central London so the water isn't great here I suppose.

I'll try the place you suggested dukesy or maybe find this bypass if the water is good enough.

Further to my reply yesterday. I spoke to a Samsung guy yesterday and the Samsung oes are set on a 6 month cycle to ell you to replace the filter. He said this was time and not need and I could just reset the machine.

Having lived in London I think I would be manic about having a decent filter down there. :)
  • Thanks for all the suggestions, I just reset it as it was on a timer too. Unfortunately no-one makes a copy yet and panasonic are using their monopoly on the part to screw us.
  • Hi,
How did you reset the timer please ? My filter replacement sign has come up and to not want to replace as yet.
    Thanks

Interesting about the filter by pass kit - anyone know if they're available for the Panasonic?

You could then buy an external filter kit from somewhere like eastmidlandswater and mount it at the back of a cupboard near the fridge. First one is cheaper than panasonics replacment and after that the inserts are really cheap.

This could be inserted into the water supply to your fridge.

Amazon have a two eqoaqua filters for £65 including delivery. I bought 5 of these on a similar offer 5 years ago and they all work well
