Carpets and Underlay

We need to buy carpets for the whole house and need something around £12/13 per meter. Our intention is to buy a good quality underlay via the internet which i am told is better value. However am not sure what type or make to buy and from where? Most carpets we have seen in the multiples are of their own brand and difficult to compare the quality and what to look for?
Any advice would be appreciated as our budget does not allow us much leeway. I trust forum readers will share their experience.
Thanks

Any standard underlay will be fine, dont get posh one, not worth it.
    Kind Regards

  • Hi there,

I'm in the middle of a carpet search too - I need 100sqm altogether. Underlay is the one thing that I've already sorted out though. After a lot of research I bought Cloud 9 underlay which gets excellent reviews and the reputation of making relatively cheap carpet "feel expensive".

I got it online and I'm sure that it didn't cost much more than £3/metre, perhaps even less. Delivered next day and feels very plush. It's not laid yet, but I'm pleased with it so far.

Whatever you do don't buy the underlay from Carpet-rite etc as it is outrageously overpriced and not very good quality as far as I know.

    Good luck with the search!

Thanks to Bill and dj. Would u please let me have the site address from where u bought yours.
Thats why i am avoiding the multiples.
    Thanks
  • Hi jayship,

I'm sure I got mine from https://www.tradepriced.com (or possibly .co.uk) as it was the most competitive at the time. They have a sister site, but I can't remember the name.

I got the recommendation off this board though, so I'm sure if you run a search for "cloud 9" it should pop up some suggestions.

    Hope that helps!

I was recommended to buy a re-cycled underlay by someone I know who works in a large carpetshop. I was told it was much cheaper & twice as thick as the standard underlay that shops sell....?

    Any thoughts anyone?
