5 lever lock with no key !

Hi all,
I have inherited a 2nd. hand, wooden front door, which I believe has a 5 lever lock fitted, but the key is missing.
Does anyone know if there is a code stamped on the lock when I remove it, to enable me to order up a key, or do I have to fit a new lock ?
Thanks in anticipation.

  • There is no code stamped on the lock.
You can open up the lock and 'read' the levers but unless you know what you are doing you won't be able to identify the levers. You probably won't get the lock back together either.
Do as Bill says and fit a new lock.

a good locksmith will make you another key, but some locks are so cheap these days, its probably cheaper/same costs to buy a new lock.
    Get some gorm.

If you are going to use this door as your front door you must make sure that the lock meets the requirements of BS3621:2007. This is a must the insurance companies insist on for contents cover.

    Get a new lock fitted.

I am a locksmith and see the wrong types of locks fitted all the time.

pm me if you want further details.
