Can I do further work on a rear extension?
We're in a terraced house that has been extended to the rear into two separate rooms. To the left-hand side is a kitchen that extends back a couple of metres. On the right-hand side is a study room that extends back further - to about 3 metres. Can we knock through to make it into one big room? And move the back wall so…

Can I extend an existing loft conversion?
We're buying a turn-of-the century terraced house which had a loft extension done probably about 10 years ago. The dormer has not been punched out as far as it could have been meaning we're missing out on extra space. Is it possible to extend the dormer to make the loft extension bigger? Is it a big job? Does it require…

Doing up my kitchen
Hi I am planning to do up my kitchen over the next few months. I plan to keep my existing cupboards as my kitchen is small and there is not much scope for moving them, so it seems pointless to get new ones in exactly the same place. These are my plans: New cupboard doors and door fronts etc. New worktop and sink New tiling…

Jack and Jill ensuite - what's that?
as is my habit I peruse the property page in the local rag and look at what I'd buy IF my ship came in via Fort Knox. And there's a penthouse flat on offer (in an exclusive suburb of Valliland) which includes a Jack-and-Jill ensuite. DD thinks it might be for two to share at the same time. I wondered if it was uphill and…

Triton Rapide shower fault
I have a Triton Rapide shower. This morning it would only produce warm water if the control was turned fully to hot. Even then it was luke warm. Is this a fault with the solenoid? I seem to remember reading about this problem somewhere else but can't find it now. Any suggestions appreciated.

Help - damp in bedroom. What do I do now?
We have had a lot of rain recently and the upstairs bedroom has always had some issues. Recently a small damp area has occured at the corner ceiling. However, it's far worse at the bottom. The corner skirting and wallpaper is blackening (up to about 50 cms). I have wiped what I can but don't know what to do next/who to…

Tile Paint
Our bathroom has 2 completely different tiles on the walls, both of which are rather old fashioned and not to our taste. We can't afford to have new tiles put on, but I saw some tile paint in B&Q. Is this any good? Does it scratch off? Is is worth the time and effort? Thanks

botched carpet fitting
I bought a cheapish felt backed carpet from eBay a few weeks ago to go in the bedroom of my flat. The previous resident had left underlay and grippers down, so I was just going to be cheap and fit it myself. After a couple of attempts at getting a nice edge, I was having trouble getting the carpet near the wall to lay…

Cleaning plaster dust...again!
Hi, Thanks for everyone who helped with my plaster dust cleaning query. I wonder if anyone can help put my mind at rest. I have been cleaning the dust from the Kitchen floor which had asbestos containing tiles which were professionally removed. Wonky doors - which route is best??
We are in the process of renovating and want to replace the white cardboard doors with oak ledged tongue and groove ones. Two options in our cold and draughty farmhouse: 1. Alternatives to kitchen shelves
Hi I did start this on shabby-chic forumbut haven't got any specific ideas from there so I suspect this is a better place. I have access to really good wine/champagne wood boxes (free) and to eastern european crates at a very cheap price - could I make a cottagey type of kitchen shelving (painted or otherwise) rather than…
