Anyone had a price match on goods reduced prior to delivery?
I ordered my sofa from Furniture Village on 6th June, have paid only a deposit so far. They rang today to arrange delivery for next saturday. But in today's paper I see they have a new sale on and it is £100 less. I just wondered whether anyone else has been in the same position and managed to get it at the new price?

Wallpapered ceiling - how much prep is needed before replastering?
Hi, we have a ceiling which was wallpapered and which we are having skimmed on Monday. My question is, we have spent ages stripping the ceiling - such a fun job - and it's pretty clean but there are a few tiny pieces of paper left (I'm talking millimetres) and some chipped paint. Is it OK to plaster on top of this or do we…

Buying a fireplace?
Something I have zero experience of so need as much advice as you good people can give... I am in the process of buying a house. It is a 60s built house and currently has an old fashioned gas fire in the lounge. The fire is one of those that sits slightly 'proud' of the wall (outset?) rather than being fully inset like…

Hi all, bit of a strange one. We just moved into our new house and were our looking for sofas today. One of the big questions we had was "will it fit through the doors into the living room?" Now, the doors are all smaller than even the smallest dimension of the sofas we looked at but I guess you can get threm through at an…

What could we do with this space..
Can do pics if need be but don't think required! Our washing machine is playing up a bit and dh suggested as the plumber is coming next week that we ask him to situate it in the garage with the tumble dryer to avoid any floods. It would allow some more space in the kitchen too but unsure what to do with the gap. We have 2…

Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question :o I have a 14" CRT tv that I want to lift up somehow so I can slot a freeview box and DVD player underneath (without resting the tv on them) Can I just take three pieces of MDF and nail them together to form a C shape on its side? Fridge problems
Hi all, I've been reading these forums a while now, but this is my first post. I hope someone can offer me some advice. I have a Bosch fridge freezer that is 5 years old. The top shelf of the freezer was not freezing, although the fridge is fine. This morning I decided to switch off and unpack the freezer and currently…

Its embarrassing to have visitors because they…

Door security for uPVC door
We've had quite a few burglaries on our street and we're trying to improve our security. We have uPVC doors and windows and have upgraded the locks and installed security lighting. Flaking Paint
Hi I recently decorated the lounge in our house and the paint on the skirts is flaking off in quite a few areas. It is quite an old house and the paint that was there in the first place was all stripped off as it was so thick and clumpy, I am unsure where I have gone wrong? Any advice? I am about to start the…

Question about Green Glue
Existingroom has had wallpaper on the wall. Scraped it all off and am planning on putting up an extra layer of plasterboard with green glue sandwiched in between old board and new. How clean does the old board have to be? Will old remnants of paste or snippets of wallpaper interfere with the green glue? (Moving out today…

Hello all. I am moving house (I hope if they would get a move on...) and our new place is going to need a new bathroom (and kitchen, and flooring). DIY Sanding Sheets
I have recently bought a Black and Decker Mouse sander. This has been put to very good use over the past few days whilst I have been re-decorating. (I would highly recommend these). Today I went out to buy some replacement velcro-backed (hook and loop) sanding sheets at a cost of £8.05 for 5 sheets. These are shaped and…

Laminate versus Engineered Flooring
I want to replace the flooring throughout my bungalow. I have a dog who is not adverse to getting muddy etc. What would be more serviceable, laminate or engineered wood? Is one any better than the other with regards resistance to scratching. Just thinking of her paws scratching the floor.
