Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question
I have a 14" CRT tv that I want to lift up somehow so I can slot a freeview box and DVD player underneath (without resting the tv on them)
Can I just take three pieces of MDF and nail them together to form a C shape on its side? Do you think this would be strong enough to take the weight of the tv? Would 9mm thick MDF be okay?
Do B&Q still have their cutting service, so I can get MDF cut to size?
Thanks for any help

The weight of a 14" tv is nothing, MDF will be fine. Regarding the nails, I would bond them together with Evo stick, then varnish or paint to your colour.
Cutting service to normally to size not the C shape ?0 -
thankyou! :T
I'll get on with it then
Thankyou for your tip about evo stick. I'd never heard of it before.0 -
Personally I'd go for 18mm thick - it gives a much wider edge for making the joints and is thick enough to take a screw into the edge. 9mm is a bit too thin and is liable to split if you screw into the edge and depending on how wide you make the shelf it may sag.0
