Washer dryer problem
Hi everyone, I have a washer dryer, and have noticed yesterday and today that although the washer is working just fine, the dryer doesn't seem to be working at all. The dryer goes around and sounds as though it is working, but things come out soggy wet still and not at all warm. Is there anything I can check myself that…

Or do you just chuck them in the machine and keep them as old cloths with paint…

Electrics - 12v lights regularily tripping RCB
We recently had fitted an RCD mains box. We now have the problem that when the lights are switched on in one particular room only it trips the box approximately 20% of the time. It can be forced to happen by flicking the switch slowly and not making “a clean” on or off. The lights in the room are 12v spots operating thru’…

Glue for laminate floor
I'm preparing to lay a laminate floor in my hallway - looking into whether it's worth glueing the stuff together to make it better suited to being at the entrance. Now it specifies "white PVA glue D3", is this a specific grade of PVA? Does it mean that using a bog standard tub of PVA would damage it or is it simply another…

keeping pale wood pale.
Hi In true moneysaving.com style, I decided NOT to spend lots on new dining chairs and sanded down my old ones from Ikea. It took ages because there was a clear lacquer finish over the wood. When they were sanded the wood was pale but I put Danish oil on one chair and it went yellowy-orange. I can sand it back again but I…

Bathroom extractor/heat exchanger
Hi All, We have a shower in our bathroom but no extractor fan. As a result the upstairs rooms are becoming a little damp. I know one option is to fit an extractor fan, but it seems a little silly to vent all that warm air outside. Does anyone know of a suitable heat exchanger for a bathroom, bonus if you have typical…

Loft Insulation
I'm a tenant in a privately rented flat; it's a 3-story building that's been split into a ground and upper flat, and we have the top 2-bed flat. It's an end terrace, so there are 3 exterior walls, and single-pane sash windows throughout; so consequently it gets very cold in winter, particularly the bedrooms, which are at…
