Loft conversion

over 15-20 years ago my dad had loft conversion done to the house. Its 1 slopping window but all plastered up. In winter it gets bloody cold up there and no one can sleep there.
I'm wondering if its worth ripping it out and getting a proper approved one done with proper insulation, stair case, etc?
The loft space is massive very high, I don't know if its worth getting permission for a proper bay window conversion. the house couple of doors down has a old small one.
any help would be appreciated.

It is not cheap and is very disruptive but if you need the space then yes it is worth it. We have just had ours done and have managed to get two large bedrooms and a bathroom. We have had a dormer put in to house the bathroom and didn't need planning permission but did need building regs approval, obviously. We used some fancy insulation (ISO10 or something like that) and the rooms are wonderfully warm.
Probably worth getting one of the big firms in to have a look and give you an estimate and get an enquiry form from the council to see whether you need planning permission if you are thinking of having a dormer.
Hope this helps a bit.We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0
