Just got a new council flat - with no carpets but has real wood floorboards. I was wondering how much money and effort is required for sanding and varnishing the floors DIY style. Any DIY experts out there?

Vent or no vent
We're buying a house in need of some modernisation and need some advice. In the lounge/dining room, there are two chimney breasts with 2 hideous fires. We want to change the one in the lounge but get rid of the one on the dining area. Do we have to put a vent in that chimney breast?
