Back boiler help please.

I have a bit of a puzzle.I seem to have hot water constantly.
Not a problem in itself but usually at this time of year, with the central heating off, I would either put the timer on or an hour boost if I want hot water. I haven't done either for a weeks so it's not residual/saved hot water and the immersion heater is off.
The pilot light is still lit on the back boiler when I look under the gas fire.
What else do I need to investigate. I don't want a surprise when the gas bill arrives, I spend the summer months playing catch-up direct debit-wise after the winter.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance.
Oh and the boiler is checked annually as part of my tennancy.

The controls are less than a year old and are the basic 24hour clock on a dial with lifting pins and two sliding switches with four options (off, on once etc).
Boiler and fire is a elderly Thorn House Warmer. There isn't a room thermostat anywhere in the house..it's either hot or not.
Still puzzled. What's your line of thinking ?
