I recently posted a request for info on where i could buy an old twyfords (i think???) sink. The day after, the toilet bust...the flush wasn't working. I drained the toilet, and took the sistern off. When i looked inside, on the bottom there were several pieces which have come from the syphon-unit: one small washer, one…

Showers and toilets
Hi guys, Seeing as everyone was so helpful before I am asking again. I need to buy showers and wanted some advice. One will be a family shower and has quite a large space to fit into. 1350mm squared and should be a really good (but not really expensive) shower. The second one is for a children's bathroom and is restricted…

Boiler extended warranty
We've just bought our first house, and had a new Ariston boiler installed. The plumber (who was excellent) recommended we take the extended warranty, but I assume that's because he'll get some kind of commission? The standard warranty is 2 years, then an extra 2 years costs £150, or £195 for an extra 3 years. Never done…

Wanted: affordable Part P certified electrician in Sussex
I am having the kitchen re-fitted - the new units will be in the same place as the old ones, more or less. The following electrical work needs doing: 1. Move electrical socket (for cooker hood) further up the wall to avoid fouling the new hood which is larger. The ring main enters the existing socket from above so this…

Preferably with one of those flexible extension thingies. Cordless nice but not a requirement. Anyone know of a dremel-like cheaper equivalent or anyone with special…

Where to Buy Limestone Fireplace with Electric Inset Fire
Planning to replace our distinctly uninspiring fireplace before decorating the lounge. Obviously being a committed MSEr this needs to be done as cost effectively as possible. Especially given that it wasn't part of the original budget! Really like limestone fireplaces as simple a design as possible. Slight complication is…

About 4 years ago I had a new bathroom suite professionally installed, and this included the tiling of the entire bathroom in lovely bumpy 10 x 8 tiles - three feet off the ground are bumpy blue, then there is one course of patterned, then the rest up to the ceiling are bumpy white. A couple of months ago I decided to try…

Moving a water meter
Does anyone know if it'll be an expensive job to move a water meter about 6 feet on the same wall so that it will be in a cupboard that already houses the boiler and electricity meter? I know I'll need to get the water company to assess it but don't know if they actually carry out the work. I've not moved into the house as…

Alternative to Wall Tiles?
My husband and I are re-furbishing our bathroom (a right headache, we have had to completely gut it as it is the downstairs extension of our Georgian house). What I was wondering is is it absolutely necessary to put floor tiles on the wall next to the bath. We are installing an original roll-top bath so the bath itself…

Roof problems
Hi, I've been putting off getting a quote for work to my roof - I live in an old house which was converted from a chapel about 30 years ago. Seems like the roof felt, maybe some of the tiles and flashing need repair/replacing. We get some dampness in the loft although it's hard to tell how much is from condensation, how…
