Boiler extended warranty

We've just bought our first house, and had a new Ariston boiler installed. The plumber (who was excellent) recommended we take the extended warranty, but I assume that's because he'll get some kind of commission?
The standard warranty is 2 years, then an extra 2 years costs £150, or £195 for an extra 3 years.
Never done extended warranties for things like this before - good idea or bad??? What are the alternatives????
Thanks in advance!

personally i would pay for the 3 yr extended warrenty (that seems very reasonably priced)
peace of mind
if one part goes once it will cost you in excess of £1950 -
I dont think you need it if you have cover with BG.
I dont have cover with BG so I'm not sure if the plan covers parts or just labour or call outs or what ??.
Someone will tell us in a bit !

Thanks guys - I forgot to say - it's converted for LPG, so we have no BG cover.
What a great resource this forum is!0 -
If its a combi boiler it would definately pay to get some form of cover in place. Combis are very popular now but by their design are more prone to breakdown due the then complication of the boiler compared to the old traditional cast boilers.
The thing is to check what your extended warranty with the manufacturer will cover. Is it parts only or parts & labour?
The alternative is a British Gas service plan at £12 per month which also gives you one service a year plus full parts & labour breakdown cover.

It covers parts and labour up to £1500 inc VAT per "insured period" - wonder what that means?
Nonetheless, the 5 yr warranty is payable at £195 or £19.50 for 10 months (interest free), so compared to the £12 per month, every month for BG, it does seem to be a good deal. In envelope waiting to be posted tomorrow.
Thanks for all your help.

Obviously I'm going on the basis that it's not going to break more than once! (wishful thinking!)0

It sounds like they will pay a maximum amount of £1500 over the extended period so if it costs more they wont pay?
The BG plan does cost more but covers more.0
