Refurb Costs - Bathroom and Kitchen

As I have never used a tradesman in all my life and have never had to refurbish a house before I just wanted to ask people what I should expect to pay for the following:
a new en-suite shower room i.e new wall tiles, flooring, corner shower unit and new power shower system.
(room approx 3 metres x 3 metres)
A new whole kitchen (3m x 3 m), flooring, cabinets, sink, fitted cooker etc.
I have absolutely no idea on a ballpark figure and am looking for prices that include fitting costs to ensure I do not under estimate.
If I had to guess now would I be correct in saying £2K for each room?
Thanks

I'm doing almost the same thing ukbondraider.
I'm in the process of buying a bungalow and need estimates for kitchen and bathrooms to allow me to keep back some of the equity from the house I'm selling to pay for the jobs.
I firsly went to the bungalow and took as accurate measurements as I could and then went to a couple of kitchen places to make me a plan.
I've had 2 quotes (subject to proper survey) both of around about £4000 for the kitchen which is 3.38m x 2.69m. These are with a small family firms around Grimsby/Cleethorpes and using vinyl doors and laminate worktop, stainless steel cooker, hob & hood. I'm off to B&Q and MFI with my measurements to see what 'ideas' they come up with but would rather have a local company do the work.
Why not look on the other chat forum...

I have done up my flat in the last couple of years and the prices vary hugely. It really depends on the quality you want. e.g All my kitchen units (carcass and doors), working surface and sink came to about £1,100 from MFI, but I got a quote from a local firm who make all the units themselves but EACH unit was £3k. 8)
So it will really depend on the value of your property. If you have a house worth a few ££££ don't scrimp, I have a two bedroom flat so spending £20k on a kitchen was never worth the money.
Plus, what ever you get quoted add a nice amount on top for hidden extras! When they ripped out my old kitchen they found the wiring was one one loop and back to front!
I would budget about £5k a room.

P.S. My Dad is a builder so I had his firm in doing the work so I know I was not getting ripped off (i.e. *tut* *tut* *tut* "What cowboy did this wiring?" etc)Lady Astor: "Winston, if I were your wife I'd put poison in your coffee."
Sir Winston Churchill: "Nancy, if I were your husband I'd drink it."0
