built in NEFF oven not heating up

arrrgghhh. Cleaned the damn thing. All healthy & OS cleaning as well with vinegar & soda crystals.

Anyway I switched it off at the wall to clean it. Also nothing was sprayed in there.

I have gone to do some baking & the fan is going around but the oven is not heating up.

The grill which is in the oven heats up as do the 4 hobs.

Its less than 2 years old.

Cannot even find the manual for it, but we had a new kitchen installed last year & a few things have gone awol since.

Arrgghh, I am b*ggered without an oven. I have no money to get it repaired either.

Please help.

  • No consolation I'm afraid - but we did the same thing - oven no longer works after being cleaned. Fan comes on, but no heat. I presume it's the thermostat, but haven't much idea how easy they are to change and presume calling someone out to fix (it's a range-style cooker) will cost a fortune...haven't done anything about it for a while...
Hope any advive you get might help me too - we have the small oven but it's very limited. We now use the microwave a lot more - even did a roast in it the other day! (it's a microwave with a grill) - maybe you could try that too?

I'm hoping I could maybe order a new thermostat cheaply on the net - asuming I can get at the area to fit it (our's is a Britannia)

    Good luck

Why not give Neff a ring to see what they could advise. It may still be under a manufacturers warranty.

I have rang them before and found them to be very helpful. I think you need the special number on the oven.If you look on their website it will tell you where to locate it.

I'd ring them - you've nothing to lose!

I had a similar problem with our Belling. It was the element which sits in front of the fan which had gone. I bought a replacement off the internet for £20 and fitted it myself. It was very easy to do and involved undoing a couple of screws and nuts. Make sure it is isolated from the power first though.
  • thanks everyone!

I have found the manual & have done the trouble shooting. Its def the element, so that'll be £93.50 then! So much for moneysaving today then...

    I agree with Chrisw.

What have you got to lose by getting out a screwdriver and having a look?

Elements are SO easy to replace. They are held in be a couple of screw clamps and the wires push on to the end of the new element. It wont go 'BANG' when you connect up as long as you make sure that no wires are touching anything on re-assembly.

    1. MAKE SURE THAT THE FUSE IS REMOVED FROM THE OVEN CIRCUIT BEFORE TOUCHING ANYTHING. (That's usually the 30 amp one in the fuse box but more recent cookers can work of the mains circuit and can be plugged into a socket - if so unplug it!!)
TURNING THE SWITCH OFF MIGHT BE OK BUT REMOVE THE FUSE TO BE SURE.

    Then do this......

    2. Take out the screws holding the element bracket in place. These will be on the back wall of the oven, or sometimes on the top.

    3. Pull the element toward you a little bit until you see the wires behind it.

    4. Unscrew the leads and take the bad element out.

    5. Hold the new element up while you attach the wires to it. Don't stretch the wires any more than you have to.

    6. Line up the element while tucking the wires back in. Be sure not to pinch the wires between the bracket and the back wall.

    7. Fasten the brackets, making sure they're tight.

    8. Restore power to the appliance.

  • My job tonight is to find an element online for my oven as the thermostat has just gone as well. Didn't happen when I was cleaning it though.
    If I had known then what I know now . . .

i WOULD BE VERY SURPRISED IF IT COST ANYWHERE NEAR £93.50.

    THATS FAR TOO MUCH!!

RING UP THE LOCAL DOMEASTIC APPLIANCE SPARES STOCKIST OR GET THE PART NUMBER AND GOOGLE IT.

What you have priced up is probably the element complete with fan assembly.
It should be possible to get the element alone. Try Here

  • Are you positive that it is not still under warrenty? I got 2 years manufacturers warrenty with my Neff oven and hob bought a few months ago. Also Neff aftersales service is pretty good and you may find they are willing to stretch it a bit in any case. Worth a go.

We got a new fan-element for our Miele oven a few years back and it was under £40 with P&P from Miele, sure we could get it cheaper on-line these days.

    manicdays.
I'm still not convinced. After reading your first post again, are you sure you haven't inadvertantly pressed any buttons on the front stopping it from comming on. Like putting it into timed mode. Happened with our Neff.
The reason I have doubts is that there is more than one element in there and I don't think they are wired in series (like xmas tree lights) so if one element goes it should still work but take longer to heat up and probably only on one side but if it's fan assisted that wouldn't be a problem.
Have another check before spending hard earned cash.
