No fixes from British Gas
Hi, I thought I would take a chance at adding my gas supply to my BG Electric fixed deal. No luck on that front. The agent sent me this which looks like it has been sent round internally at British Gas. So, after pushing people to a fixed deal from the capped variable deal, it is now the other way round. Ignite

Unsure about kWh
Hi I wonder if anyone could help. I appreciate I may be embarrassing myself asking such an obvious question. i am wanting to work out how much it costs to run my boiler/central heating for an hour. It’s a newish boiler A energy rated It’s a 26w boiler my new kWh cost will be 0.728 a kwh. The way I’ve worked it out is that…

EON artificially low estimated bills
My elderly neighbour received her electricity bill from EON this week. Usually the estimated usage is pretty close to her actual use. But this time the estimated usage was way below the actual (by about 1000 units). Am I being cynical to think this is in EON's interest (if she doesn't give her actual readings), as then the…

With gas prices so high is it cheaper to use electric immersion heater for hot water?
In the current climate, just wondering if it would be cheaper to heat hot water using the electric immersion heater rather than the gas boiler? I’ve always understood the immersion heater to be much more expensive to use, but with the massive gas price increases I wondered if that was still the case. Thanks

New home owner - energy
Hello all, I have recently purchased a house and received the keys yesterday. The previous owner informed me they use a company called Octopus Energy, however, I do not know anything about their current price plan and energy use. Can anyone advise me on what is best for me to do and what I need to do having just moved in.…

Moving house - switch or stick?
I am shortly moving to a new house in south west London - I have been living with family for a couple of months whilst waiting for the new house and I currently am not signed up to any energy provider. I’m obviously concerned about the price hikes and so wondering what I should do when I move in? Should I stick with the…

Help working out new cost - is it all a guess
Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone could please help me work out my cost from April (I’m aware it’ll go up again in October). Scottish Power are saying they won’t release new prices till the 10th of March so how is everyone working it out? Is it just an estimate based on the price cap increase but could potentially be more?…

British Gas, again!
I find myself amazed typing this, but there you go. I'm on the 'People's Tariff' with BG. They sent me a communication regarding new pricing from April. Prices for cheque/ cash and lower ones for payment by DD. The higher price for units of electricity was 10% above the price cap. Standing charge was 18% above the price…

Credit balance not refunded
I was with People's Energy then transferred to British Gas on the demise of the former. I was paying by DD, I'd built up a credit balance of £330, up to early September. I didn't receive a final bill from People's Energy. The credit balance due to me is likely to be £280-300. I've been chasing British Gas for this since…

Avro to octopus
Hi I was an Avro customer who transferred to Octopus. I have submitted 3 readings since then and my recent statement tells me I am £8.23 in credit. However this is my new quote which seems to be based on estimated annual usage. Currently I pay 1,356 a year which I know is low but I am not in debt.... Can anyone help me…

New rates above price cap
I live in north Wales. British Gas have offered new unit and standing charge rates, payment by direct debit, which are above the price cap. I've just spent half an hour on Google, can't find an answer. There are lots of references to variations in price across different regions but I can't find anything specific to regions…

Economy 7 (ECO 7) Anyone seen the new tariffs from their current provider
Hi All I was wondering if anyone had received their new quote for the new rates for Eco7. I noticed on mine that the night rate has increased disproportionately to the day rate and standing charge and was wondering if a) there were providers doing cheaper night rates b) whether the industry standard mix between day and…

People’s energy
Help, having a nightmare! I’m getting hassled by credit style saying I owe money to peoples energy. I was paying by direct debit until October when they went bust and were taken over by British Gas. I’m now supposedly in debt to Peoples Energy even though I’m being billed for the same period my British Gas. I can barely…

Shell rates higher than the price cap for upto March 31st 2022???
Hi I've been transferred from Pure Planet to Shell Energy (lucky me!). The prices for Shell seem to be above the current price cap which I thought was a legal limit, but I can't get an answer out of Shell. The rates are: (my rate vs. price cap) ELEC Per unit: 21.607 vs 20.8p p/unit Standing charge 25.66 vs 24.88p/pday GAS…

Moved House - Had to switch Enery
Hi All, This my 1st post on here as just so confused. I was with Eon Next, and have moved a few counties south and the new house was on British Gas, I was told by Eon they dont cover this area so we would have to switch to BG. So done that and now looking to find a cheaper alternative but having zero luck of anyone taking…

Bulb, Economy 7 and general energy usage advice
Hi All, I live in a 1970's build house with storage heaters ( ggrrr ). We have open fields to the front of the house and the wind whips up a frenzy to the front of the house. Our current provider is Bulb. We have cavity wall insulation albeit very old and new UPVC windows ( three years ago - these made no difference if I…

Utility Warehouse
Does anyone have experience of Utility Warehouse? They are offering a variable rate which is £160/month which is significantly cheaper than other deals around at the moment (based on standard gas 12000 pa and electric 2900 pa). I just thought I’d check if anyone else is using them and your thoughts before I switch. Thanks

Stick or switch
Hi all, I’ve been offered this loyal customer deal. By my calculations this is only worth doing if the price cap rises by over 20% in October. Is this correct? I’ve really tried to get my head round this, inc watching the latest video by Martin but still feeling a bit lost :(

Switching for Customer Service
I know the advice is to stay put, but having been switched at the end of last year from Igloo, I'm at my wits end -- nearly every month since when the energy statement arrives, there is some error, each time slightly different, and I have to contact them about and each correction seems to have just caused more errors. They…

Living without electricity.
I wonder if anyone can tell me if there is any way I can legally have my electricity disconnected in order to avoid the daily standing charge imposed on me by energy companies? I'm in social housing accommodation.
