No fixes from British Gas

I thought I would take a chance at adding my gas supply to my BG Electric fixed deal.  No luck on that front.  The agent sent me this which looks like it has been sent round internally at British Gas.

Due to previous unprecedented times and now the Russia/Ukraine conflict wholesale prices have continued to rise considerably with large increases seen over the last few days
At this time, we are unable to offer customers a fair fixed term contract, so the decision has been made to withdraw our fixed tariffs from the market
If your customer is looking to fix in their energy prices, please ask them to continue to check the BG.co.uk website for when new offers become available
These changes will help us operate in a fair manner and ensure we can continue to keep things simple, affordable and sustainable
You will not promote/apply any fixed tariff until further notice.

So, after pushing people to a fixed deal from the capped variable deal, it is now the other way round.

The best BG deals were never on the BG website, they were only on comparison sites.  This will probably remain the case if / when some form of normality ever returns.

BG even set up a separate sister company so that ordinary BG punters wouldn't stumble across cheaper prices.  This confused even their own staff, who wrongly told people that 'British Gas X (later the British Gas Evolve) was a scam !
