Moved House - Had to switch Enery
Hi All,
This my 1st post on here as just so confused.
I was with Eon Next, and have moved a few counties south and the new house was on British Gas, I was told by Eon they dont cover this area so we would have to switch to BG.
So done that and now looking to find a cheaper alternative but having zero luck of anyone taking any on.
Is this the normal route when moving home? I sort of believed we would be able to transfer the Eon account to the new home.

You can't transfer an account. You have to sign up with the deemed (existing) supplier at the property. You are then free to move away. However, there aren't really any attractive deals, at the moment, so you will probably as well off with the SVT, that you are automatically put on, when you take over a supply.

Normal route is that you have to take your gas and electricity for whichever supplier already supplies the property. Read meters, call supplier, open an account on Standard variable tariff. With the energy market in the mess it is in right now, this is the best deal. Every supplier's SVT is the same and all Fixed deals are more expensive.

For completeness, some suppliers used to allow tariff transfer to a new property (subject to regional cost differences). It still required the consumer to sign up with the deemed supplier, then make a switch back to their old supplier. The deemed supplier would raise a bill to cover the period when it was providing energy.1
