With gas prices so high is it cheaper to use electric immersion heater for hot water?

In the current climate, just wondering if it would be cheaper to heat hot water using the electric immersion heater rather than the gas boiler? I’ve always understood the immersion heater to be much more expensive to use, but with the massive gas price increases I wondered if that was still the case. Thanks

Check your tariff, even with the gas price increase coming in April it is still around a quarter of the cost of electricity if you are on the standard variable tariff.
It gets better if you have a dual rate tariff with a cheaper period over night but even then on E7 the electricity will still be at least twice the price of gas.
If you have one of the EV tariffs then it might make sense as some will give you a period where electricity is cheaper, and of course if you have solar then there are going to be times of the day when it certainly makes sense to use electricity to heat the water.
