EON artificially low estimated bills

My elderly neighbour received her electricity bill from EON this week. Usually the estimated usage is pretty close to her actual use. But this time the estimated usage was way below the actual (by about 1000 units).
Am I being cynical to think this is in EON's interest (if she doesn't give her actual readings), as then the 1000s units they've underestimated by would be charged at the much increased rates due to come into force shortly?!

Whatever the cause, the solution is to submit a meter reading. And another on 30 March.

Having a smart meter fitted should also prevent such issues in the future.

    Yes, you are being cynical.
Conspiracy is always the least likely explanation, especially when it is a noticeably large amount.

Only noticeable if the person subsequently reads their own meter though - and the references here to regularly estimated bills suggest that this person may not? I’m also struggling with the logic of a suddenly massively UNDER estimated bill at this stage - pretty much everyone I’ve heard of with estimates has been complaining that following the increased use during lockdowns and last winter’s very lengthy cold spell they’re being OVER estimated!

@clewis35   Do make sure you read her meter ASAP and give it to EON and do the same March 30th.

Any problems with your own bills/reads ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
