Electric radiators vs storage heaters
My 90 year old mum has storage heaters in both bedrooms and the living room of her all-electric flat. We have had electric radiators installed in the kitchen and hall for her, and a warm air heater in the bathroom. The storage heater (probably 14 years old) in the living room has stopped working, and I was wondering…

First statement for gas
Hi everyone we moved in on 4th and I just got my statement for gas. I'm shocked. Its £80 for 13 days usage. I'm on Eon next variable tariff. Can someone please a take a look at my usage and tell me if we're using too much! As in more than average? There's 2 adults and 1 child. We like a warm house but I felt like we were…

Can you refuse entry to meter readers?
My electricity meter is inside a porch at the side of my house, which has a locked gate in front of it. I am not happy about allowing alleged 'meter readers' into my house via the front door - I have read many times about conmen pretending to be meter readers and then gaining access to people's houses. Shouldn't the…

Careful if you're thinking of fixing.
Remember the following if you are thinking of taking a fixed rate deal........ If you take it now then you effectively lose 1 month of the cheapest rates (ie before Aprils Capped increases). You need to calculate; 1 month of present billing 6 months of billing at new April Cap 5 months billing of Aprils Cap +50% (which…

British Gas Scam?
I've just received the expected email from British Gas advising of increases in fuel prices from 1st April, giving a comparison between my current Tariff and the proposed new tariff. They had got my current tariff wrong. I contacted them to query this as the email was more expensive and indicated my current was variable,…

SMETS2 and meter readings
I've been asking EON for over a year if they can guarantee SMETS2 meters but all they say is "we can't say" and I refuse to tie myself to a single company which is all you get with smets1. And what happens when 2G/3G and 4G are abandoned in a couple of years? "we can't say" is thier reply. When I ask if the IHD can show…

Fixed Rate Deal
I opted to fix (3yr fixed until Sept24) back in October 2021 which put my duel fuel bill up by £67pm. Elec unit rate is 20.05p with daily standing charge 24.87p. Gas unit rate 3.951p with daily standing charge 26.12p. I thought I might have dine the wrong thing at that time. However, have I been wise to fix at that time…

Standing charge
Martin says electricity standing charge cap is 45p but my supplier is charging me 52p. Their explanation is that Ofgen expect the standing charge to be around 14% of a bill. So is there a price cap on standing charges or does the price vary according to how much electricity used?

Just moved house - how do I deal with taking over the old supply?
Hi everyone, I moved flat on the 21st Feb. I told my old supplier (OTM) that I was going to move, but they've messed me around a bit and seemingly lost the application, so they only took the closing readings today after I followed up on it. The new flat is supplied by SSE. I want to stay on SSE's SVT until April 1st and…

EDF Bill error help
My Mum's electricity bill seems to have a glaring error, but we have been in touch with 3 EDF customer service people (2 email, 1 phone) who say there is nothing wrong with the bill. Have I missed something obvious, or is the reading for Jan 4th clearly wrong in the bill (attached)? Thanks

PFP to British Gas - Late Final Bill?
Everyone's getting their PFP "final bills" in the post at the moment, which is a long time after we were all switched to British Gas, and a long time since we were due our final bills. Who is liable for the £30 "late final bill" charge in this situation? It doesn't seem like PFP are taking complaints at the moment?

Should I switch?
I got moved to Shell from Green when they folder. Obviously I understand the prices are going up and up. The latest communication from Shell was this: £1,508 - Your current tariff: Flexible 6 Direct Debit ebill £2,382 - Your new tariff: Flexible 7 So that will be about £200 a month. I just did a search with Utility…

I'm disabled and just moved to a new bungalow, automatically with British Gas for both gas and elec Standard Variable tariff by default. Refusing Tariff Due to IT issue - Scottish Power
Hi there! On the 16/02 I checked my Scottish Power portal to change tariff as it was due to end 31/03. I was given a tariff which I was happy with however when I tried to continue the website kept saying “something is wrong”. I took screenshots of the promotional offer, its price details and the error page. Then on the…

Energy Percentages?
I have been listening to Martin’s advice about whether to fix or not, if you see a deal which is around 75% more than what you are paying now or 15% after the April price rises then it’s worth considering- but how do you work out these sorts of percentages?
