First statement for gas

Hi everyone we moved in on 4th and I just got my statement for gas.
I'm shocked. Its £80 for 13 days usage. I'm on Eon next variable tariff.

Can someone please a take a look at my usage and tell me if we're using too much! As in more than average? There's 2 adults and 1 child. We like a warm house but I felt like we were using the heating sensibly. I just want to know if everyone is now paying this amount or if we are just using too much and really need to focus on getting our usage down.

I was expecting it go up by 50% but we were previously paying £90 a month for gas and electric! I'll be looking at  least £200 per month minimum for gas a electric 😬

  • The bad news is that the price per kWh will rise significantly on the 1st April.

For clarity, if you moved in on the 4th why is the bill showing a meter reading date of the 15th? Did you provide this reading to the supplier? I assume that you had a meter reader call on the 1st March?

That is high, but it does depend on the size of the house etc.
For comparison, over that same time period we used and average of 64kWh a day to heat a large 5 bed house...
How high have you got the thermostat set?

We have a large 3 bed house 😬 definitely need to cut down! Usually around 21 but put it up and down as and when needed. It has been left on someone's when my other half forgets to turn it down when he leaves or goes to sleep 😔 that defiantly doesn't help. But now he's seen the bill I hope it sticks in his head!

The good news is, you look to be on a capped variable tariff.
The bad news is, if those meter readings are correct (can you check them please) then yes, you have used over 100kWh/day.
how big is your house, when was it built and how well insulated is it? What temperature is your thermostat set to?
Edit: sorry, I was writing this when you made your post answering most of these questions.

Obviously depends on the size of the house, whether you have gas or electric cooking and so forth, but our average daily gas use in mid-Jan to mid-Feb per our latest bill was just under 78kWh per day.  That's for a 3-bed semi, gas central heating, hot water and hob.

We're similar to you 3 bed, gas hob, gas heating, so definitely need to work on using less. I will keep meter readings over the next few days see if we're improving but the end of the month.

3 bed detached, gas central heating and hob. 15th Jan to end of February we averaged 64kwh per day. This is with actively trying to reduce gas usage. House is occupied all day...
