AVRO refuse to refund credit - beware
Last year we signed up to AVRO energy attracted by their low prices but soon things started to go wrong. We quickly found that our direct debits were way too large and it got to the stage where we were £150 in credit with them. Despite regularly supplying meter readings, AVRO refused to refund all of this credit or adjust…

Eversmart Energy
I have been with Eversmart for a year now and my tariff is about to end - I am unable to log into my account or make any contact with them - I have tried online chat to no avail - I just wanted to switch to a different tariff and remain a customer - this is now looking very unlikely based on the very poor customer service…

Extortionate electric charges
Morning all, I’ve have been with cooperative energy since July 2018. Having rarely giving in electricity meter readings, they decided to estimate my bills. They also sent out someone to read my gas meter, electric meter is just above it so they decided to ignore that one. Come October I was apparently in £100 of credit for…

Unexpected Gas Bill from old supplier (Advice needed)
Hello all, Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this. With the help of MSE and the Energy Club I switched Gas supplier at the end of January when my current tariff was coming to an end. The last bill from British Gas (previous supplier) was £22 odd. I've just seen a 'final warning' email from British Gas saying…

Gas meter has blown up - HELP!
I came home this evening to discover my gas meter has literally blown up. I blame my supplier, [insert name of supplier you wish to defame here], as I alerted them previosuly as I thought the meter was faulty, but they ignored my complaint. I wish I had ignored them rather than switch to them last year. They are awful and…

EDF says we need a new electricity meter ...
Hello. Last month, we received a letter from EDF saying: "We need to replace your electricity meter" "Your electricity meter is reaching the end of its lifespan, so we need to replace it as soon as possible." "We're legally required to replace meters when they reach their certified lifespan." Possibly I'm being overly…

Problem With Switch
I used the Cheap Energy Club to switch gas/electric providers on the 3rd April, but there seems to be a problem. I was originally with Green Star, and switched to British Gas. I haven't heard anything about the switch, and Green Star just contacted me to say thank you for renewing my account with them. It seems they…

What are the odds that Nabuh Energy will also rescind a 12 month fixed tariff?
Hi all, trying to summarise as much as I can with regards to events over the past year: I have a SMETS1 prepayment smart meter manufactured by Secure. It was originally installed by Utilita. Was a very happy customer until they increased their prices exponentially in April/May last year. Switched to Eversmart in July 2018…

Solarplicity - Moved to Standard Variable tariff without notification - where do I stand?
I am a low user and switched to Solar Plicity after my previous supplier (Ebico) ended my tariff and the only alternative they could offer was around 50% more costly for my usage. I'm not after sympathy. I knew they had a terible reputation when I switched and took a gamble and went ahead anyway. I knew it was a gamble and…

Smart Meter mandatory in t&c
I want to change my energy supplier but don't want a Smart Meter. I am with EDF but when I signed up for their cheapest deal, I spotted in the t&c that I had to agree to a smart meter. I realized that if I refused to have one then they would probably charge me the fee for moving. As I had had enough of comparing at this…

Direct Debit re-assessment
Hi Folks, I switched from Scottish power to another company (which shall remain nameless for now) in October of last year. I went from paying an average of 65ish per month to 45 with this new company. The SP account had been the quarterly standard, which I basically just paid as I went, whereas the new company was direct…

Getting Rid of Economy 2000 Meter (Thermaflow)
I have an Economy 2000 Electricity Meter (three-rates) with a Thermaflow wet heating system and find the bills horrendous... Other than Scottish Power, no other providers seem to support this 3 rate meter, meaning I can't switch away from Scottish Power to a better deal. I'm considering getting Scottish Power to switch me…

Scottish Power
Having just been on hold and got nowhere with Scottish Power for over 50 minutes, has anybody had recent success writing a letter to them? They've got estimated figures for opening and closing meter readings on our brief time with them. I had an online chat where the operator said they would change the opening reading to…

Switching energy supplier and changing name
Is it possible to do a gas and electric supplier switch, and change the name of the account holder at the same time? In other words, if the bill is currently in the name of person A, and I initiate a switch and put the name of person B on the switching form, will this work? Or will it cause problems?

Typical energy usage 1 person in 1 bed flat
I am reviewing my nephews utility costs (he has special needs), but before looking at energy companies I wanted to get an idea of typical usage for 1person in 1 bed flat. I have seen averages on some sites but would like a real world idea of typical kWh used per annum for Gas and Electricity. They have Gas central heating,…
