Getting Rid of Economy 2000 Meter (Thermaflow)

Options
I have an Economy 2000 Electricity Meter (three-rates) with a Thermaflow wet heating system and find the bills horrendous...

Other than Scottish Power, no other providers seem to support this 3 rate meter, meaning I can't switch away from Scottish Power to a better deal. I'm considering getting Scottish Power to switch me back to an Economy 7 meter, then I'll be able to get a better deal by switching provider.

Has anyone else out there found this to be a money-saving move?

I want to stick with my Thermaflow heating system, because the costs of changing it would probably be too much right now. But, I'd be interested in any tips for optimal usage of the Thermaflow system to help me get my bills down...

Thanks all

I'm guessing that going to an E7 tariff with a Thermaflow wet heating system may cost you significantly more than the three rate tariff. As the heating system uses electricity when it's heating it will consume energy when it's most expensive - ie during the peak rate periods

The heating system wont be able to take advantage of the lower off-peak rate between midnight and around 7 in the morning (unless thats when you heat your house) so would be consuming energy at the E7 peak rate which is probably more expensive than the heating rate that you are paying at the moment. E10 might be more appropriate because you do get an off peak boost in the afternoon and evening.

You really need to do your sums to check when you actually heat the house and see how well it fits in with E7 timing and to evaluate whether the off peak and peak rate tariffs are actually going to cost you more than the three rate tariff than you've got now. Check if you can get an E10 tariff and see if the timing works out for you.

TBH a wet electric heating system is almost the most expensive form of heating there is (apart from Fischer, Rointe and other similar panel heaters)

Have a shufti here http://www.thermaflowheating.co.uk/faq/ for some tips on using the Thermaflow system
