Energy prices - think i'm paying over the odds
So looking at saving some ££ on gas & electricity (pre-pay). We are on a BG std tariff. Current: 1.82/week standing charge (26p per day) 13.21/kwh Don't know usage, but we spend about £30 per month electricity. So £30 - £7.80/month standing charge = £22.20 usage. Divided by cost/kwh = 168kwh/month usage. So looking at a…

Time limit on Utilities' debt recovery?
I have a outstanding debt with Scottish Power from a previous account at a previous address which was never billed. The question is: does this debt stay around forever, or is there a time limit on back-billing? Is this simply the 12-month limit, or is there more to it?

nPower - Need an account to get my preferred supplier?
Afternoon. I recently moved and let my supplier know i wanted to carry on with them. They were happy with that, told me when my direct debit would start and advised me I should get a bill 'to the occupier' which I can pay. Fair enough, I thought. nPower have raised an objection now, meaning the transfer has been cancelled.…

Need to vent about npower
npower have to be the most frustrating company I've ever dealt with. I haven't had a bill since November 12. I've had an open complaint with them that is still unresolved since May 13. I've had to contact them on 10 occasions to chase it up or when they haven't taken my direct debit. I finally moved supplier on 3rd July…

500% Rise in EOn Direct Debit
After a few years of paying a manageable monthly DD of £34 pcm (and often getting a refund as we were so much in credit) we recently received a letter from Eon that our Electricity DD was rising to just over £200pcm. Shocked - I checked the meter and went back through the readings on the bill thinking it was a…

Co-op Energy: Submitting readings online
Are there any co-op customers out there? I'm in the process of switching and received the email requesting meter readings for the switch. Logged on to the website but there is nowhere I can see to enter the readings. I can see the text that says enter your readings below. I can see the button to submit the readings. I…

Problems with your energy bills? Maybe I can help
This is my first thread and as you can maybe guess by my username I work in the energy industry. My area of expertise is billing/SAP/IS-U. Most of the big six use these are their main billing systems. I hope l can provide advice about any account/billing issues you may have with your energy supplier. Being on the receiving…

All electric house. Poor EPC rating and no heating. Help!
We just bought a 3 bed 1970 built townhouse in London that has no gas supplied to the entire cul-de-sac. Most of the other houses in the development rely on original electric underfloor heating installed in the concrete floors when they were originally built. Our electrician has discovered this is beyond repair (it was…

British Gas free loft insulation
I saw the advert on this site for the free loft insulation and £50 gift voucher, so filled in the form for British Gas to call me. They gave me a survey date of 4th November (they must be busy). There is already loft insulation up there, but it's pretty old and not very thick. Will they just cover the old insulation with…

Appalling service from Ovo - avoid
After changing to Ovo because of their high customer service rating on this forum I think I should flag to the community that all is not as rosy as made out. Ovo initially messed up our switchover date, and as a result of their delay then supplied our old provider with a grossly incorrect estimated reading. I'm now £20 out…

Temporarily stopping gas supply and metre
I have dry rot growing in my hallway and this is where the gas metre is. To get the rot removed and treated, the joists and floorboards will be replaced, the plaster hacked off and redone, and the brick walls treated with fungicide. The specialist company that will be doing the work said that I have to get all pipes and…

Solar PV: energy supply and feed-in tariff from different suppliers?
I'd like to install solar PV, BUT I'm currently on a fixed price energy deal with a small supplier that doesn't offer a feed-in tariff. I've heard that in principle one can have energy supply and feed-in tariff from different suppliers, but only if the feed-in supplier agrees to it. Has anyone actually done this, or know…

Buchanan Clark and Wells
Hi all, I know there is lots on this forum about this particular debt collection agency but I just wanted some advice after I explain the situation. When I moved into my new house in December 2013 I immediately switched from Scottish Power to EDF. I gave Scottish Power the final meter readings and was told everything would…

Scottish Power =Useless
Switched from SP to NPower almost 5 months ago and because NP used the wrong final readings, Sp kept sending me an estimated final bill.Despite giving SP the correct readings myself, they continued to send an incorrect bill.Eventually, after some 4 months wrangling they accepted my final readings and sent me an email…

Npower billing, and dreadful customer service
This is our story: On the 7th March we received a bill - our first EVER bill since moving to the property 2 years prior. The bill was far higher than the projected. We had been advised when we joined npower to pay £50 direct debit and this would be more than enough to cover energy in our pokey little 2 bed house. To make…

Another NPower Urgent help needed
I have been with Npower for about 15 years and have recently in the last 3 years started having issues. Every February for the past 3 years they stop taking direct debit payments from my account. This also falls in line with when they send me a bill. I always give them meter readings online, over the phone and letting the…

Ways to "go green"?
I would really like to try and have an "eco" lifestyle as much as I reasonably can, but it seems to be very difficult! We're going to replace some of our more used bulbs for LEDs, but these are still very expensive. We have LEDs in our new kitchen as well as more efficient fridge/freezer, combi boiler, induction hob etc.…

why has my boiler stopped working??
Hi there, Just wanting some opinions please. My internal boiler flue was exposed during a long heavy spell of rain. The boiler then stopped working. The boiler is 16 years old. Would people think that it was the age of the boiler or water down the flue pipe that would cause my boiler to fail? Your opinions would be most…
