why has my boiler stopped working??

Hi there,

Just wanting some opinions please.

My internal boiler flue was exposed during a long heavy spell of rain.

The boiler then stopped working.

The boiler is 16 years old.

Would people think that it was the age of the boiler or water down the flue pipe that would cause my boiler to fail?

Your opinions would be most appreciated

Many thanks xx

I can see where this is heading but I suggest that you would get better advice from a trained heating engineer. Presumably, the boiler is going to have to be looked at, and if the engineer believes that the problem is solely down to rainwater ingress then you might have a case against your builders.

The boiler itself has had no issues since we've lived here (5 years) and stopped working the day after hours of major rainfall...

What sort of time span should a boiler last (mine is a glow worm economy plus C)

You had good value for money already. 16 years of trouble free service.

If you can find an ageing plumber with a taste for nostalgia, he can sort it out for you. It's the same old repair or replace dilemma. It all depends on price of spare parts.

An economy c is an open flued appliance with a vertical flue. If the terminal had come off and it rained heavily its likely to have quenched the pilot light.
