Central heating wont come on
I think it is a compatibility problem between the "receiver" (ie the box under the boiler) and the "thermostat" ie the box on the wall where I set the temperature I want the house to be). Is there any way I can over ride the "thermostat" and just turn the heating on manually (so I can keep warm today and get an engineer…

I have 2 separate account numbers for gas and electricity. I am currently only registered online with the electricity and i cannot find a way of adding my gas account, so they are both dealt with in the same way. I am having to call to do things concerning my gas, that i can sort online with the electricity. If anyone…

Hi, My current deal with EDF runs out on 31/12, after which date have said they would put me on the standard rate, I dont even have to do anything. :-D I've got other ideas, but was wondering how long it normally takes to switch? Basically I would like to start a transfer soon so it completes in the beginning of january,…

G & E usage
If my gas boiler is on to heat hot water, would I use any more energy if I put the central heating on at the same time? My supplier has told me that I won't but I should welcome other views and perhaps even a definitive answer.

Npower sign online 20 ending when can I start to switch?
HI all. Simple question. I am on Npower's Sign online 20 tarrif that finishes on 31st December. Have looked about and Npower are simply not competitive any more so am looking to switch to EDF. When would be the right time to initiate the switch request online as I don't want Npower hitting me for £40 early termination fees…

Single rate electricity on multi-rate meter
Ok this is mostly weird in my mind, but I've happily had BG and e-on as my energy suppliers for the last couple of years, with a 'normal' electricity tariff. I switched to EDF, all the correspondence looks fine - but after gaining access to my online account with them it looks like they've just put me on Economy 7 without…

British gas - wrong bills, right result!!
A couple of important points about energy companies to use against them: # The big 6 have all signed up to a Code of Practice which says they have a duty to provide accurate, regular and easy to read bills # There is a Back Billing code which says that no energy provider can charge a customer for gas or electricity used…

Electric blanket and condensation query
Hi folks! I sleep on the floor of my flat and am looking to use an electric blanket for the first time this year to save money. However I am a bit cautious about doing so as I have noticed when I put my bed away in the mornings there is condensation on my carry mat and the underside of my foam mattress is damp. Does anyone…

Gas hob?
Hiya, I have an electric hob and oven under. My question is with gas being so much cheaper would it be mse to change the electric hob for a gas one in the future ( as money allows?) keeping the electric oven. In the kitchen there is a small radiator fueled by gas boiler. No gas pipes for a hob or oven. A gas hob would also…

Npower still getting it wrong what will it take
npower has now sent me 4 bills in a row all of them wrong. when will they learn. after all its not rocket science check your bills if you are with them as I'm sure its not just me. if you are on a primary and secondary rate tariff they are supposed to charge the fist 2kwh for each day at the primary rate and the rest at…

Can I use gas supply to generate electricity?
I just received my annual statements and noticed that electricity is about three timees as dear as gas. It may sound daft, but if there was a way to generate electricity directly from my gas supply, I could perhaps make quite a big saving? Obviously, your gas pipes are not to be tampered with, but has anyone had a…

one radiator not working :(
Hi all, I'm not sure if am allowed to ask this in here or not tbh, but have just put my radiators on for the first time this winter, and they all work fine except for the living room one :( Both pipes leading to it are cold, and there is green liquid at the bottom of the pipe that doesn't have the thermostat (if that makes…

DD discount!
The government said that tariffs are to complex and that there are to many tariffs which confuse the consumer. In response BG and SSE have reduced tariff offerings and now offer less discounted tariffs. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-15804530 I wonder if people really do campaign for all customers be treated equally…

switch before or after move?
I am moving house (renting). I have looked on a comparison website and found that I can get a better deal on electricity from a different supplier and get £30 cashback for doing so (the property doesn't have gas). (1) Would I be better off telling my current supplier that I'm moving home, let them do the switchover and…

Central Heating Thermostat
My central heating is constantly on despite the thermostat being set to 10 degrees. I have managed to cool the house down by turning a switch on the boiler to 0. Rather than get an engineer out I want to change the thermostat first, but I have never changed one before. Is it advisable to try this myself? My current…

Call centre staff not all bad!
This may well get removed but I hope not! Just came home from taking calls at BG Cardiff having taken calls for Children in Need - only call centre in Wales taking such calls and the generous Welsh donated over £240K. People in Cardiff may have seen some colleagues doing a 'flashmob'…
