How long to switch provider?
Options
Hi,
My current deal with EDF runs out on 31/12, after which date have said they would put me on the standard rate, I dont even have to do anything. :-D
I've got other ideas, but was wondering how long it normally takes to switch? Basically I would like to start a transfer soon so it completes in the beginning of january, so I can get on to a cheaper deal with another company. I cant start too early as I would then have to pay a fine for leaving early, but likewise I wouldnt want to wait too long, as it means I will be paying a much higher rate until the new provider starts.
What do you think? When is a good time to start the transfer? (Would I be able to start the transfer now, but insist the new provider doesnt complete until 1/1/2012?

No, you can't dictate a date. Typical switch time is 4 to 5 weeks, so probably around 5/12 is OK.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
