got a letter last week from n power to say are duel fuel is going up from £52 a month to £103 a month!!!!! we have all ways been in credit for the whole 4 years of been with them.I know that fuel prices are going up but that seams a bit steep to me, Is every one getting the same pay hike?or is it just n power?
Its a new two bed house and theres only me and my girlfriend. The house is empty all day and i didnt think we use that much energy.

I am paying £90 a month with Scottish Power for dual fuel. I am £300 in credit at the moment. We have a four bed with 3 of us in the house - my daughter is 18 and likes baths and heat.
Yours seems a lot in comparison.0 -
I'm in a 1960's 2 bedroom maisonette and I use prepayment meters which charge a lot more than DD. I put £7 a week on the gas & the same on the electric. So thats £56ish a month, a lot less than your new amount. I'm also guessing your place is more insulated than mine, so I would definitely say that is excessive.
I wonder how much interest these energy firms are getting with a lot of their customers being in credit!0 -

Your monthly relates to some kwh usage and that is what is important, the rate for what you ay for the kwh determines the monthly, £52 seems to low, £103 maybe high for some but probably about average.0 -
£103 seems a little high on 2 people in 2 bed house but the jump assuming you are still in credit will take into account higher usage and or price rises that are recent. Although £52 seems on low side at end of day its your usage that should determine the DD payments and any future usage
We pay around £110 dual fuel with BG for family of 4 in 3 bed house and we do supplement heating with log burner. I am also in credit my gas dd has jumped up over £10 per month since price rise in August0 -
When you phoned to ask about this what did they say??
Asuming you haven't phoned and came here for advice then make sure you are armed before you call:
Take a look at the last few years bills. Can you find 2 readings roughly 1 year apart? If you subtract one from the other you'll find how many units you used in a year. Multiply this by today's rate per unit, add on any standing charges (multiply by 365 if it's per day). This big total will give a rough guide to how much your bill will cost for the next year. Divide by 12 to get a monthly amount. This is more or less what your monthly DD should be. How does it compare to the figures quoted above? If your figures are very different to N power's then ask them how they get to their figures and why their charges have risen so much.
Usually when I phone up to query DD rises I'm told by the person on the line that they have overestimated my raise and decrease it again.

no i haven't phoned yet i have been getting other quotes from different suppliers first.
When i go to n powers web site and put my predicted usage in they come back £220 a year cheaper!!!
most of the prices ive been quoted come in around £200 to £300 cheaper.
going to give them a call when later.
£52 a month may sound cheap but we have all ways been in credit so that must be the amount of power we use.0 -
£220 a year cheaper is stil lonly about £18 less. Than the £103 you've been quoted I assume. It seems that your DD will increase whomever you go with. Where did you get your predicted usage from? Did you work it out from past bills, or was it in the letter N power sent to tell you they were increasing the DD? If the latter you need to make sure the figures used are correct.
I once had a predicted usage saying my bill would rise, and it included 560 days' worth of standing charge! On my planet we only have 365 days in a year!

Look at the recent Eon threads to get an idea what is going on.
I cannot answer for the specific calculation, you need to ask NPower to explain that in writing (or by email). Make sure it is based on accurate usage assumptions and actual meter readings. Specifically you need to ask them the date of the next review. You didn't say but the calculation also depends on the *exact* tariff and account credit balance. Perhaps you could post that.
Stop relying on the £££s and start looking at the meter readings.0 -
Make sure when using comparison sites you give your consumption- not your DD amount- to get an acurate quote.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

You could have been hit with the 'zero spring balance' policy.
