Gas fire or Ch - effiency
I have a gas fire which is 80% efficient, which by gas fire standards is actually quite good. Our house is a 4 bed detached, fairly new build and well insulated and overall efficient and cheap to run. Over winter we run the ch 24/7 and it works out well for us on cost. We run at 16c all day, boosting to 18c in evening. My…

Price increases as soon as you switch
There has been a lot of publicity in the past couple of weeks concerning switching. One thing no-one tells you is that as soon as you sign up to someone new, they put up the prices, so what is the point ! Last year I switched to Scottish Power, they increased the prices to more than I was paying before I had even had my…

Scottish Power - refunds after account closed
Please don't forget your refunds when you leave Scottish Power. my final invoices said I needed to take no further action, and my mother got her refund from E-on in under a month. So after almost THREE months I contacted Scottish Power and they have have replied that my account is closed with £11.55 credit, and they will…

Estimating Electricity Consumption
Does any kind person have an idea why NPower would be estimating an additional 21% usage the coming 6 months over the last? No electric heating or cooking and with the gas heating on, less use of the immersion heating. Anybody ever managed to challenge this? My bill has gone from £27 to £43/month. I'll be out of there as…

What Would You Do If..........?
The National Grid went off (in your area). <-- changed due to comment on post 6). I've seen chat on these forums that the National Grid is at times, working to close to it's maximum capacity and that we could in the future be faced with power cuts. Also on the news recently this has been reported especially with a…

Eon 20 months DD or 22 months DD?
I have just come across this tariff from Eon and am I understanding this correctly? If you stay on our Energy Fit Plan for 2 years and pay by fixed monthly Direct Debit, we'll give you back 2 months' worth of your energy free, one for each year. And we won’t collect your Direct Debit payment in months 12 and 24. So are Eon…

EON bills in credit
Hi everyone, I've done a quick search but couldn't find anyone who has had this precise problem. I've just moved into a new flatshare, where they have EON electricity and it is not in anyone's name (just to the occupier). I have no idea why they didn't just put someone's name on it, but anyway. Someone who has just moved…

The mind boggles!!!
Just had to share my disbelief. We are over four hundred pounds worth of credit with Scottish Power. Yesterday we got a letter advising that they will be sending us a check for the excess credit on our account. Fair enough! However.. the letter also advises that they are increasing our direct debit by twelve pounds a…

EDF- nearly out of lock in contract.
I am in December going to be free of my 1 year contract with EDF. I talked to some canvassers yesterday and asked if they are going to put their prices up again. They said yes they are. I just want to know if it's worth me asking if I stay with them, will they freeze my prices as they are still the most competitive ?

BBC Breakfast Low income Families paying 25% of income for energy
This issue is being discussed now on BBC breakfast and is critical of the Energy direect which allows for deductions from benefits of up to 25% so a family on £160 ish will have £40 deducted at source and still have all other bills to pay from the remaining £120. This can be even worse for those not on benefits but minimum…

No bill for a year then bam, big bill!
Hello, This year my mind has been elsewhere due to the birth of my daughter. Earlier this week I realized I hadn't had a bill from Eon regarding my dual fuel account. I calked them up to ask why and all they could tell me was that I was £533 in credit. This couldnt be right could it? The young guy on the other end of the…

Switching sites
Has anyone else been concerned by being cold called by a switching site. I was contacted by the Energyhelpline recently. Rightly or wrongly I signed up to BG Websaver 11 about 8 months ago and the energy advisor who called me suggested I incur a £60 cancellation fee in order to save £10 by moving to Scottish Power. I could…

Day / Night meter readings, wrong on site?
Hi, We recently had our analogue electricity meter replaced with a digital one. Our energy provider have asked us, as they do every three months, for our meter readings. Looking at the online input form it seems the engineer who replaced the meter updated our supplier with the meter readings at that time. At this moment…

What's cheaper? One radiator on or one electric fan heater?
What would be cheaper, having the central heating on but only turning the one radiator on (in the room I'll be in) or having an electric fan heater for only ~20 minutes to heat the room up (& turning it on for 10 minutes every hour to just ''top the heat up'') Thanks

Have you put your heating on for the winter?
It got too cold to be without, unlikely to go off now until March. I run it 24/7 and it's at 16C now and been great. Hopefully not going to be much more this year after the price hikes. I was going to get a digital programmable thermostat but for the cost of £40 - £60 it would take ages to pay for itself.
