How do I compare Essentials tariff on websites?
Hi, We're on the old British Gas Essentials tariff for both Gas and Electricity and are moving in a month. BG have said we can take the tariff with us, but obviously we want to check it's still the best deal for us. Only problem is it's not listed on comparison sites, so how can we check? It's not like they have 'insert my…

Meter reading experiment
We supply our gas/electric readings every 3 months and pay a "fixed" amount via DD. I simply don't understand how energy companies seem unable to comprehend the simple idea that I'm likely to use a lot more energy in winter than I am in summer. Consequently despite me giving them clear historical data of our consumption…

Giving a meter reading?
I get my duel fuel from southen electric, I get bills 2 times a year but pay by DD. If i was to give a meter reading 2 months before it is due will i get an updated statement straight away? The reason for me asking is because i owed them £300 but i would like to see what that figure has gone down to without phoning them.…

i'm currently with southern electric who only generate a bill every 3 months. i like to keep up to date and pay at the end of each month which means a phone call, waiting on hold, confirming details and reading out my card information every time. just wondering if any other companies make it easier to pay monthly and do…

economy 7 mix up
I think that my electricity supplier has mixed up the readings on my meter to my advantage!. The question is if I change suppliers and then tell the new supplier would they contact the old supplier.? The fault does not appear to be with the meter but somehow the readings that are taken by the meter reader are swopping…

New house - should I switch?
Hi all - please reply if you have any advice... I have just moved into a new terraced house. I rang up British Gas (the current suppliers for Gas and Elec) straight away to give them opening meter readings etc, and will be switching straight away to a different (i.e. hopefully cheaper) supplier, I'll be going for direct…

2 and a half year old bill
I;ve just been on the phone to British Gas about a bill from 2 1/2 year ago that I didn't know anything about. It's from a previous house that I move out of because it'd been bought up by the council for demolition. As far as I know the council boarded it up within a few days of me moving out. BG said I didn't get a bill…

Basically, we moved out of our last rented house on the 31st December 2008. We had previously recieved a bill on the 10th December 08 which was fine, we had given them the meter reading for…

I have a key meter for my electricity with E.ON - I went to top it up yesterday and it refused to read my key - I spoke to E.ON who said I needed a new key and gave me a registration number. Needless to say this didn't work and I've had 4 different…

Not sure if I'm paying too much for electric?
This is my first post, but have been reading for a while. I've finally gotten around to giving nPower a meter reading for our electric, six months after we first moved in, due to the fact that I have been waiting this long to get the key off the landlord to access the meter in the hallway (it's a shared block of…

npower advise to cancel dd
I called npower to have my monthly direct debit increased for gas and electricity. They accidentally increased the gas payment only and re-assessed my electricity meaning my direct debit is now far too high. They've said that it is too late to amend for the July payment as it is requested 7 days in advance but if I cancel…

Hi. Was wondering if anyone knows who I might be able to complain to, other than administrators and Energy Ombudsman (who say they cannot help), in order to get my money back from E4B who went into liquidation last October. I used to pay for my electric monthly by direct debit and was in credit and am now owed a fair sum…

British Gas Hung Up on me - Seriously annoyed
I am ex BG cust and just got cold called with the old "If we can save you money would you consider coming back to us" line. I wasn't too busy so thought I'd give them a go, despite having checked that EON is still the cheapest, and that if I was moving I would use Quidco etc. He went through the motions, then when I told…
