Key Meter Technical Q

Hi All,

New to this but I'm hoping someone out there may be able to help!

I have a key meter for my electricity with E.ON - I went to top it up yesterday and it refused to read my key - I spoke to E.ON who said I needed a new key and gave me a registration number.

Needless to say this didn't work and I've had 4 different codes in the last 2 days - they are going to post me a new one but I'm not holding out much hope of it working - has anyone encountered this problem before? I'm worried as I only have £2 left of the emergency - they've said when it gets down to 50p I can request an emergency call-out but that could be up to 24 hours...

Many thanks for reading and I hope someone out there can help!!

    Hi ElectricTog :hello:

I am sorry you have had such a problem with topping up your meter, this is a nightmare for you

The numbers that you have been given over the phone are called PAN numbers, you would have needed to wait an hour before using these at the shop.

As you have said that you are already in the emergency credit, you should be able to request an appointment for a wind on, this is when credit will be put in to the meter for you.

They will only do this if the actual credit is below 50p or you are in the emergency credit.

When you do receive your new key, you will need to put this in to the meter before purchasing credit, this will register it.

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Helena :)

  • Thanks for the response Helena,

I did leave it for longer than an hour but the numbers still didn't work. And surprisingly the promised key hasn't arrived today so it looks like I will have to request an emergency call-out when I get home from work tonight!

I hope they confirmed the meter serial number with you before actioning anything otherwise it may not work if their records are incorrect.
