npower advise to cancel dd
I called npower to have my monthly direct debit increased for gas and electricity. They accidentally increased the gas payment only and re-assessed my electricity meaning my direct debit is now far too high. They've said that it is too late to amend for the July payment as it is requested 7 days in advance but if I cancel the direct debit with my bank and then call a couple of days after they can reinstate the direct debit at my chosen amount.
I just want to check that this can in no way affect my credit history as a missed payment? I dont think it can but want to be 100% sure!

Refer them to section 7.6.1 of The Originators Guide and Rules to the Direct Debit Scheme rather than trying to buck the system
Before due debit day
If BACS file has not been submitted: The Originator must make every effort to correct the error and recreate the BACS file with the correct data.
If the payment file has already been dispatched to BACS for processing: The Originator must contact its account holding branch on the debit due day. See action listed below 'debit due date plus 1'
Debit due date plus 1
The Originator should contact the Payer's Bank branch to request the Payer's account to be recredited. Payers Bank branch to credit the Payer's account and raise an Indemnity Claim with the Originator. The reason for the claim will be detailed as 'claim requested by Originator'. The Originator cannot counter claim in this instance.
Note: Paying Banks may request the Originator to provide its request to them in writing.
Whilst nPower claim the file is prepared 7 days in advance, they shouldn't have sent it to BACS yet. Section 7.2.1 details this.
Day 1 - Input
Originator transmits automated data in accordance with the timetable laid down in the BACS User Manual.
Day 2 - Processing
All data accepted is processed (the working day before Entry day)
Day 3 - Entry
Direct Debits and associated contra entries are debited/credited to destination Bank accounts on this day."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Thanks. Is it likely that a customer service rep on the end of the phone is going to have access to section 7.6.1 of the operators guide or have any idea what I'm talking about?0

ok so does anyone know if I can receive anything negative on my credit file for deleting the dd? I'm 99% sure it's fine to do but there is always that small amount of doubt!0
